His numbers are pretty good. In the context of being a freshman, they are outstanding.Seems a good fit. He basically steps into Roper’s roster spot in the same way Preston fills TVH’s.
Mullins was the #6 scorer at Denver (with 9.8 ppg; #4 and #5 has 10.2 and 10.1), and the only freshman contributor. Denver wasn’t particularly good, finishing tied for 8th by going 6-12 in conference.
He scored well in the paint — 58% from 2, which was a huge miss for just about everyone last season.
Exactly fits one of NU's weaknesses - a high percentage shooting guard. Now to find a big, offensive minded forward.
There’s an obvious comparison to Audige, who came to NU after one year in the Colonial. Chase actually shot 55% from 2 at William and Mary, then went 45%, 40%, 40% at NU.His numbers are pretty good. In the context of being a freshman, they are outstanding.
10 ppg pops out as a freshman for sure. But when you see he did it on 52% FG% and 37% from 3, that becomes even more impressive. He's also 6'6, which makes him a fairly tall guard.
I'm excited we got this dude.
Pure speculation from someone who never saw him play. But I am envisioning he might make it easier to play Barnhizer at 4. And that 4, or if one wants to stay away from notions of traditional positions, not being too small beyond MN, seems like a problem we need to solve. I am purely spitting this out of seeing he's 6'6.There’s an obvious comparison to Audige, who came to NU after one year in the Colonial. Chase went 4 RPG/2APG in 27 minutes, while Mullins went 3/1 in 29 minutes, with an A:TO in the wrong direction.
It’s a good pickup, especially if Mullins can be the #3 or #4 member of the backcourt next season.
Wouldn't you say those are reasons for a freshman to want to transfer to a program where he will get more competition and support?I wanted to be excited about Justin Mullins - He's 6'6" and looks athletic.
He's only a freshman and his shooting percentages look good.
but...
Denver was a 2nd tier team in the Summit League.
Summit was Sagarin's #25 conference last season.
Denver was the #309 team in Division 1, of 363.
I'm sure its a great move for Justin Mullins personally.Wouldn't you say those are reasons for a freshman to want to transfer to a program where he will get more competition and support?
I have a feeling they think they have that in Hunger.
Still, the guy put up numbers against UCLAI wanted to be excited about Justin Mullins - He's 6'6" and looks athletic.

NUCat320's comparison of Mullins to Audige is insightful, because William & Mary (Colonial) plays to about the same level as the Summit and they put up similar numbers as freshmen.
So you can find pretty good guys playing in the lower realms of Division 1, but its two jumps up for a young man whose best offers out of high school were Cornell and Denver.
Hopefully he was just unappreciated as a high school junior and exploded after the recruiters had moved on, like Nick Martinelli.
