More a question for Lou. Any chance fitz moves away from only one qb per class in this class given the lack of quality depth on the roster? Or does the portal make that a moot issue

Any familial connection between the acclaimed BYU and University of Utah football players including Sean and Stephen Covey of BYU and more recently Britain Covey a star wide receiver at the University of Utah?

(One of my NU grad sons got a job with the Covey organization which at least then had a presence in Chicagoland when he first graduated from Northwestern, so I would not be surprised if this Midwestern Covey has a connection with the Western Coveys.)

A chance? Sure. But I doubt it.

So, how to interpret this? We got a QB very early in the process, which could mean we landed one of our top A-list targets. However, the kid only has MAC offers, so it's not exactly a Clayton Thorsen level recruit. Are we just really high on the kid or are the coaches aiming a little lower to make sure they get a QB?

When a kid is from your back yard you have a much better feel for their potential than some kid you hear about in another area of the country. You know the school, the level of competition, and you don’t get over hyped by recruiting stars that don’t correlate with what your program needs

Covey reminds me a bit of Peterman.
Really?

I’m optimistic about him because they seemed to feel strongly about getting his commitment so early. I’m optimistic about Lausch for different reasons, he was clearly a plan B or C but is a great athlete and could be a sleeper.

However, obviously neither is as sure a thing as Thorson, Basanez or Kustok who were true 4* recruits. They will be development prospects.

Yes.

I like Gray’s size and his mobile profile.

I love that Covey is a high school QB moving to WR. Converting QBs are my favorite players.

Gray is the #59 dual threat QB on Qbhitlist.com, which is the only rating I could find. Of course, these ratings are totally made up.

I hope he has a great summer and senior year and blows up and sticks with the Cats.

Of course it is very early in the recruiting process and with COVID changing visit patterns.... Hopefully we have found the diamond for this recruiting class

Of course as we have seen in the past, guys don't really get re rated much if committed very early unless other programs get involved.

Covey played QB and Wide Receiver. Multi-sport athlete that could dunk a basketball as a Freshman in High School. Seems to fit Fitz' mold of best athlete on the team. Nice to land a couple of Chicagoland athletes early that have the academic credentials to get in.

My feeling is that with the transfer portal's popularity restricting HS scholarship offers, recruits will decide earlier in the process instead of collecting offers.

I should point out that ‘Aidan Gray’ and ‘Frank Covey’ are possibly the two least SEO-friendly recruits in wildcat history.

Aidan Gray appears to be a European-style home decor retailer, while FranklinCovey is the outfit that markets The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. (Habit 6: Read college football message boards…while on a treadmill.)

If you search "Frank Covey HUDL tape" on Microsoft Edge, you will get a bunch of videos on how to run a team-building session using lots of sticky notes and trust falls...
