“I just started playing basketball a year and a half ago,” Ghai said. “I grew up in South Sudan, and in my country, most of the people play soccer or volleyball. I never heard of basketball until a few months ago and a guy named Luol Deng built some courts and I came to town from my village one day.
“I would best describe my game as unique. At 6-foot-11, I can handle and bring the ball up the court and on the perimeter. I can shoot the deep ball, have a soft touch close in, and dunk the ball every chance I get. With a 7’5” wingspan, I can block many shots and change/alter shots. This also helps my perimeter defense. My NBA comparison is mostly Kevin Durant and Wemby.”
Sure pumped. I think we’re in for a special run the next 4 years.Based on what I googlesearched on him, he's quite a fast riser as he just started playing basketball in 2023 to become a 4 star player by 2025. From a 2024 On3 interview:
Thank you, Luol, for spreading the hoops gospel!
At 7'3", with length and a high motor means he probably could execute the Matt Nicholson/defensive anchor role from day 1 - of course, he's gonna have to build up his body to endure the rigors of the B1G.
Congrats again to Coach Collins and his team!
EDITED TO ADD: Oh man, I thought Arrinten Page was a senior! So, hopefully if Page works out great, you can have him + Ghai at the 5 in '27! That'd be the perfect way to bring him along.
Plus, this also confirms that Cade Bennerman will be playing more perimeter as a stretch 4, which aligned with what I was hearing from him in interviews. From: Bennerman 2024 interview:
My movie star comparison is Brad Pitt and Leonardo DiCaprio.Based on what I googlesearched on him, he's quite a fast riser as he just started playing basketball in 2023 to become a 4 star player by 2025. From a 2024 On3 interview:

Yeah, if Kiss wants in, there’s no way we turn him away.
His only other power offer is Wake Forest. He doesn’t even have any mid major offers.
I think that list is outdated. I pulled it off Denny’s, but that tweet and the other thread shows he has many more offersHe can play.
Often offers are missing from any given site that publishes them. Always seems to be 247 has the most comprehensive list:
Still seems light for what 247 considers the #99 player in the country and the #103 by their combined with other services rank.
Still on the NZ forward that played against Krupp in the international league on the board.
Symon is listed at 7'2"/7'3" and 210 lbs Matt was supposedly about 280/290. That is part of what made him so hard to move. Symon will have to add 59-60lbs or so to be able to take on that role. With Page, Kopp and Bennerman it is possible he could be a good candidate for a RS year to allow him to get stronger develop in other areasBased on what I googlesearched on him, he's quite a fast riser as he just started playing basketball in 2023 to become a 4 star player by 2025. Appreciate the insight here @Smokejumper. Are you pretty confident we are still recruiting Kiss? Haven’t seen much and some are questioning if truly the case. Thx
TBH, I don't have any insider insight on this recruiting situation - not since previous prior coaching regimes.
The other guy (807?) seems to have better inroads to insider info. It wouldn't surprise me either way, but given CCC's preference for flexibility and positionless BB, Kiss seems to fit the bill as a 3/4. Guess it depends on their current view of projected development from Kropp and Bannerman now that they have hands-on experience with their capabilities and potential, and how close is Kiss to Kropp in terms of position and capabilities.
I see the issues of having too many young players to find meaningful minutes, so that might give the staff reason to take pause and make sure the fit is super strong first and foremost. The first 2 commits seem like they really want to be part of the NU MBB family. We'll just have to wait and see about Kiss - as of yet, no word on an official which seems odd if there were strong interest from Kiss.
... lots of development projections and tea leaves but the optionality is great given the strong '26 class.
NU should have had him in for an OV last weekend, including a trip to Soldier Field to see the All Blacks- he would have committed after the HakaStill on the NZ forward that played against Krupp in the international league on the board.
Ha, indeed. I think Bill Raftery would have had fun with his name, too.Goodbye Kiss.
Has Symon Ghai signed yet? If not, does anyone know why?
