At this point, I don't know why we got him out of the portal. I assumed he would start given his experience and shooting ability.
If he is not a good defender then why would BM want him? He must be terrible at D to get this little playing time given his shooting ability.
I assume he will hit the portal as soon as it opens.

So who is sitting to get him on the floor? Banks is by far the best defender. Howard played pretty well tonight. Combes is the relief for Stirtz. Sage played really well. Koch has been really good this year.

Who you sitting to get him minutes?

Lol at the 95+% of Hawk fans that insisted Hoss is better than Pryce
You’re laughing at fellow fans who might think a current Hawk is better than someone who left the team for Nebraska? Oh the horror! Are you even a Hawk fan? Or are you just a pompous blowhard that thinks they’re right all the time? By the way, 95% isn’t even close.

What's it matter current Hawk vs former?

I'm laughing at fans that don't have a clue, yet choose to verbalize their thoughts to large groups of the public. Bad fans are bad for sports.

I’m saying that you’re acting genuinely surprised that fans of a team are favoring/believing in one of their own rather than a player on a hated rival. That just seems weird to me.

in addition, it also sounds like you’re saying 95% of Iowa fans are bad by your definition. Interesting take.

95+% (of the fans who made the comparison) claimed Hoss was the better player.

I didn't say anything about "favoring/believing".

No, I'm not at all surprised at the idiocy of sports fans

I assume he proved to be a far worse defender than Ben expected.

Ben also liked what he saw in Jirak and Thompson.

Doesn't mean everyone is going to play
Because an 18 and 19 year old playing for the first time ever in college are comparable to a senior.

Just saying 8 guys played tonight. That's the number most coaches play in their rotation

I think Stirtz is in for a tough year now that teams have figured out how to guard him. They're picking him up as soon as he hits half court. Our team keeps backup up farther and farther away from the basket hoping the other team will back off, but they're not. We don't have anyone that can drive past their defender.

Hausen's lateral movement seems to be really slow. I never saw him play for K-State, but maybe he wasn't expected to play much defense for them. But it seems pretty obvious that the young man just doesn't have the speed or quickness to be effective against most teams Iowa plays. No coach gets 'em all right, and Ben may have been hoping he could get more out of Hausen on D than what is happening. I feel bad for the young man. He just doesn't seem to fit Ben's system at all, yet we know he can shoot it.

As great as Jordan Bohannon was as a shooter, I doubt he would have seen the floor for Ben either. His athletic limitations were similar to Hausen's. The system matters. JBo wasn't expected to be a great defender. Anyway, right now it seems like Hausen is in a really unfortunate situation. But maybe things will click later, and his time will come. Iowa definitely could use another 3-point threat.

I think Cooper is a lot better than anticipated and that’s where Hausens minutes went.

I agree with you but I think Ben is going to need to rethink this (or not). I'm guessing that Ben thought he'd put the best defense on the court and then let Stirtz handle the offensive side. Now I think we've seen that Stirtz can't win every game for us. We need more/better shooters to help out. Iowa St doesn't have really tall centers so our bigs could rebound and score, which kept us in the game. For other B10 teams, with tall centers, this Iowa team is going to struggle to get points. We're going to need Hausen, if he can make his shots.

I thought Fran had too many guys standing around the three point line, but I think Ben is even worse. Until we have some kind if inside post up game, we're going to have a problem with good teams. And there's a lot of good teams in the B10.

You are right about the 95% by a long shot. Hawk fans are great.

Hawkeye Report "fans" might be 50/50 on the bitching, so I also get his point about those folks spouting off.

I don't get it either but it's a long season, hopefully it gets figured out. We need another option for outside shooting besides our PG.

After the Maryland game, Ben McCollum shared postgame that Brendan Hausen not seeing the floor was solely a coach’s decision. Ben didn’t give any particular reason.

Hausen picked the right school, he was just a year late. Fran would love this kids bag. A gunner that cant guard.

And KSU was 16-17 a year ago. Numbers are cool and all, but wins are what we’re after.
