I have attended the last 5 years. Definitely worth it to check out at least once. Two years ago, they changed up the layout and it was a disaster. However, last year was almost back to the normal awesome. I highly recommend trying to get VIP over the general admission, because you get private bathrooms and not port-a-potties, you get in an hour earlier, you get a bigger sample glass, and you also get your own section with different beers that the gen admissions cant access.

I used to be involved in the event. I've attended about 9 times, maybe more.

If you go, hit all the food early. Lots of good eats, but most of the sample tables will be out of food by 7.

Grab a few samples of beer, head to the food tent, which has decent beers as well. Then do the rest of the beer tables/areas

Get the VIP, you get a bigger glass. Take advantage of the early entry. Some of the more obscure, hard to find beers run out early.

Also, free water and Powerade stations, take advantage of that every hour or so, will keep you on track.

It's usually hellishly hot. Be prepped for that.

I went last year. It was pretty fun but even as a big beer nerd I've quickly got tired of the beer festival thing. Good beer is so available now that you don't need these to taste good stuff, and you're not getting a better deal (unless, like us last year, you know somebody who works at a brewery and they keep slipping you free drinks after your tickets are out). And going from big flavorful beer to big flavorful beer while getting drunker as you go makes really tasting it all more difficult. It's probably worth it once. $55 to hang out at the zoo getting drunk on good beer isn't an awful deal.

Spot on. Also figure out which vendors are less judicious about noting you're grabbing a drink. The limit sneaks up on you fast.

Honestly, I go in every year thinking "this might be the year they are actually forced to abide by the drink ticket system," but it ends up never happening. But then again, I won't give them any tickets/let them mark my card unless they hound me about it.
