He's taking a shot at the CBB media hype machine, not Harry. He makes a good point. Problem is, his team isn't that fun to watch and Duke is.

Eh, whatever, if roles were reversed, we would probably think the same. We eat it up being Duke fans, while the rest of the country hates us cause they ain't us.

We might think the same, in fact I agree w/you. I will say for the life of me I cannot imagine K making such a public comment if roles were reversed.

Maybe a bit too much salt, but I agree with Denver. The media goes way, way overboard on the Freshman to the point where it is almost disrespectful to the game. I get why they do it. Without 4 year studs sticking around, they almost have to do it. They hype what they can. They certainly hyped Buddy Heild last year-as much as you can hype a kid playing at Oklahoma and they are trying to hype Josh Hart and the Heel Slayer, but there just is not a ton of those guys around.

Not a big deal; Mike was on our sideline for a long time, and fought a lot of battles side by side with Coach K. He is calling out the media a bit regarding the attention he thinks his kids deserve. Can't disagree with him. Certainly not a shot at Duke.

I certainly do not blame the media for PORTRAYING it as a shot against Duke. Given the two's history together, it makes for a great story leading up to the Duke-ND battle in South Bend end of January. Given the inevitability of human nature, it will definitely fire K up for the matchup against his ex-assistant.

I think the surprise of it all is the history of their association together. Its more characteristic of words between two old rivals. We dont know all the history of their relationship. Perhaps Brey is miffed he never gets mentioned much as a possible successor to Krzyzewski.

I don't really disagree with Brey. To be honest, it sometimes frustrates me as well.

Think about it....this premise we're a team of only 'star' freshman baffles me more. Right now, we have a 5th year senior captain who's an All-American candidate, another senior captain playing 35+ minutes per game, and a junior who was an All-American last season.

I don't disagree with Mike either- i am in full agreement w/you. Just surprised he took the shot at media INVOLVING a school where he really began to make a name for himself under a Hall of Famer and true gentleman.

I also don't think it was a shot at Duke. It was, as others note above, a shot at the hype of freshman over against veterans who have played years in college and are in a great game. In other words, he wants Raftery and others to talk about their teams - not the drama of whether Giles will play soon.

I don't begrudge this in any way whatsoever. As a Duke fan, I care about what is happening with our players. But, he's the coach of Notre Dame - and Duke is an opponent he's battling in the conference. He's a fiery competitor.

And, for those who think K would not make such a comment, you didn't know K from the 80's before he started winning titles. He was uber fiery and did make those kinds of comments about UNC and Dean getting calls. Brey has that kind of fire in him still and is not a media darling with multiple titles. So, I totally get that. And, I don't think K would take any offense at what Brey said.

I respect your opinions, but disagree somewhat. Absolutely Youngman, I remember K's fiery comments (and on-target) about UNC...There were all sorts of things tossed around about K and Dean's dislike of one another in those days. However, K didnt exactly sit next to Dean what 5-10 years learning more about tje game and going thru the wars TOGETHER. Thats where I am surprised- Brey's a smart cookie, and smart enough to know ot would be played by media as a shot against his mentor...

Duke-23 I also agree w/the narrative he's making, but likewise share your views about the "respect" angle....

If I didn't know better, and it had a dadgummit or two mixed in there I would think it was Roy whining.

If that is how Brey feels, I have no problem with it. But he also must understand that no one has ever said that life is fair. I imagine there are more than a few people out there that think the musings of a highly paid basketball coach complaining that his team is not getting enough hype doesn't quite seem fair to people who risk their lives every day and make a fraction of his income. There are lots of thing in this world to complain about...this one really isn't in the top three.
