I'll get ripped and someone will quote where I say I will get ripped nevertheless....

Maybe spurrier is the wrong choice but a guy like him with head coach experience to come in as an OC and kinda co-coach the team. I don't think stoops ego would prevent it. He wants to win and in the process he might learn a little bit. Maybe this is an option?

Yeah,I thought he just retired from coaching? Has he expressed interest in coming to UK? Wow, I didn't know about this. When was the announcement that he wanted to get back into it?

I'd be open to it, but Spurrier might just enjoy the golf course more than coaching these days. Plus I'm not sure if the Ol Ball Coach would be any good at playing second fidddle to anyone.

Spurrier did say he isn't retiring. He mentioned that he could see himself coaching at the high school level or consulting for someone. His conference was very strange. He basically said he left because the team was losing and wanted to give someone else a crack at it.

OP, I started a thread like this about two weeks ago.. Having him as our OC would be a huge step for us providing the situation worked itself out..We can all dream can't we?

Guys No reason to think that uk could actually hire experienced coaches instead of HS level coaches.
I know you see other programs hiring guys who have experience at power 5 schools running the program to be their oc or DC and was successful in various stages of their careers. We on the other hand hire guys from Juco's or mid majors who just started coaching.

Spurrier playing second fiddle...yeah that would work out.

Could you imagine the fans every time there was mismanagement knowing you have one of the best minds ever on the sidelines.

How about listen to Stoops hammer through another call-in show or press conference in his boring methodical way know the greatest sound bite in football was on staff.

The real answer is to get Stoops to move to DC and have the staff get super motivated to work in recruiting for Spurrier so he could golf. That isn't going to happen though.

Or find a time machine and take about 20 years off of Spurrier.

A man who has accomplished what Steve Spurrier has and possess the ego he does isn't going to be an assistant for anybody. If we want Steve Spurrier we'll have to offer him the head coaching position.

I wouldn't mind it...but it is pie in the sky...

Spurrier is old school football and has little to no respect for UK's program...I honestly think he sees it as a disgrace, especially to the SEC...

I like the idea of bringing in older and experienced coaches..guys who have HC experience...there are a few of them out there who i think would at least listen to an offer...

I think Beamer still has enough juice in the tank to be an assistant and/or coordinator...Sylvester Croom may be looking for a gig now that the titans are going through a change...

you got June Jones, George O'leary, Greg Schiano, Norm Chow, Randy Edsall all out there...

If Mark Richt gets booted maybe he would like a place to chill out for a bit...

you'll notice that the top teams have staffs full of assistants/position coaches who can be or have been top coordinators and coordinators who can be or have been HCs...

I think this off season will determine whether or not CMS is destined to be a successful HC or not...the best HCs make the tough decisions to change their staff and tweak their coaching philosophy...they bring in the best assistants and let close friends and colleagues go if they have to

Long story short, it's not time to bail on CMS...but i think we're to the point now that from here on out if we can expect the same people and philosophy then we can expect the same results...

I've seen Spurrier mentioned, Steve Ortmeyer, Beamer, Chow....all of these guys are in their 70s. Bring them in and the Geritol bill would be prohibitive.

UK fans don't have the same experience with SOS as UGA fans. He never had a personal dislike for UK like he does for UGA that goes all the way back to his playing days at UF. He scored some points against UK, but that was just the way the game went, he wasn't calling time outs with less than a minute to play up by 30+ against UK, he did that twice against UGA. His ego is huge, when UF was looking for a coach after SOS left the Redskins and Foley, UF's AD, asked for his resume, SOS's reply was look in his trophy case. He has been a head coach in college for nearly 30 years, has a huge ego, not sure he could work as an assistant for anyone, head coach question him he might walk out in middle of a game, he doesn't need the money and his ego won't stand for him being questioned.

ha...no doubt they are all old and probably past their prime...but I think that would be a plus in our situation...

I think we would only need them for a few years just to help build a solid foundation...

Chow is real old...but the list of skill players he has mentored is quite impressive...record breakers, hiesman winners, pros...I think he could really provide some wisdom and help develop the skill players...

right now that is what this program needs...CMS has a lot of young guys with young energy, which is great...but Luke wouldn't have been much with out Obi wan and Yoda...

Grump I'm pretty sure SOS called time to run it up on us a couple of times. He was upset one year when game was late and almost over,he said Mumme was trying to [pad his stats.

So here's what I've gathered from this thread.

We can have this:

OC-Steve Spurrier
DC-Greg Shiano
QBs-Mark Richt
ST-Frank Beamer

Still deciding what to do with O'Leary, Chow, Edsall and Croom.

Yet we are keeping Mark Stoops at head coach haha!

South Carolina fans wishing for Tom Herman from Houston to be hired and Cardell Jones to transfer to be re-united with him. That would be nuts. Dont see it happening but would be wild.

USC may be begging him to comeback after today. The Cocks just got beat by something called The Citidel. [laughing]
