Too soon in my opinion. Love Jeff brohm but I think he needs to show he can recruit on a consistent basis. Didn't USC take Westerns basketball coach a few years back? How did that turn out? Where is darrin horn now?

I think JB is smart enough to not try to follow a legend. Even if the legend wore out his welcome.

CRP, as big as he was, met some resistance doing it.

If he were offered the USCjr job, he would have to take it. That being said, I would be surprised if Brohm would be considered ready for that high profile of a job. I would see him more at the Maryland/Illinois level of jobs. I could see Iowa State (if they fire Rhoades) being interested since Brohm's offensive prowess would fit right in the Big 12.

Don't know if that's a good comparison even though I agree that it's a big step up.

Darren Horn went to the graveyard of College basketball the likes of which is the equivalent of Oregon St., Northwestern, Nebraska, etc... South Carolina football is a pretty big deal.

Never know though, Jeff's name is hotter than hot right now. Deservedly so.

I think Justin Fuente would be a more highly regarded candidate. I don't expect him to be at Memphis next year. If Jeff Brohm isn't hired by a Power 5 school, there is a chance he will end up at Memphis.

I don't want JB to leave WKU for selfish reasons.

IF USC2 calls, he just might be the guy to follow a legend.

IF he goes this year, I hope he stays toward the south. His WKU team is loaded with FLA kids. (wonder where he got that idea?) It is becoming pretty clear that the more kids a team gets from FLA, GA, AL, MS, the faster their chance of becoming something. Indiana now has 24 from FL/GA and is on the upswing. Northwestern has 5.
(we have 29, uk has 29)

A quick look at the Sagarin top 30 shows:

- 10 are from south and east of the Ohio & Miss. Rivers
- 7 are from the midwest (B12 area with heavy recruits from TX)
- 7 are from the Rockies west (Cali players)

So 24 of 30 have recruiting bases in the South, TX, or California.

Tells me where I need to apply for work if I'm an up and comer.

College Recruiters list top 5 potential coaches to replace spurrier:

#5 - Charlie strong. Even though he had a signature win against OU, it may not be enough to salvage the season. Losses to Kansas state and WVU could spell doom for Charlie.

#1 - Bobby Petrino. While my first reaction was no way, a lot of things made sense. Spurrier was known as an offensive minded genius much like Bobby in his early days. ACC is just not the same level as SEC. Bobby is only 54 and sees the SEC East as vulnerable with a good shot at a NC.

The first reaction is usually the correct one.

That same writer also listed Lane Kiffin and Will Muschamp as possible options.

This writer at College Recruiters doesn't seem very bright. The past few years have shown that you don't have to play in the SEC to win a championship, and the use of a playoff is making improving those odds for teams not in the SEC. And, while ACC is not the same level as SEC, South Carolina is not the same level as the other biggies in the SEC. Petrino, or any other incoming coach, wouldn't be inheriting a powerhouse or even rebuilding a former powerhouse (i.e. Arkansas). He would be building a program almost from the bottom up to eventually play for an NC. Given that he is 54 right now, he likely won't see that NC in his lifetime, unless he's still coaching while in his 70s.

Charlie - No, can't afford his buyout.

Brohm would not be a following a legend at SCar. Spurrier was a legend at Florida. Didnt have near the success at SCar.

Cardfaninmemphis,

Not arguing, I would just like your thoughts on why you think Bobby is on a faster track to a championship at U of L then he would at USC. They get way better recruits than we do.

Well, you actually are. I think he already answered your question.

I have to agree with Cardfaninmemphis on several points.
1. The best coach out there that a lot of people are overlooking is Fuentes at Memphis. He has done a great job at Memphis and he took them from rock bottom to a really good team. Former Memphis coach Larry Porter ran Memphis into the ground and Fuentes built them up in a very short time.
I also think Petrino to South Carolina is a ridiculous thought , I to think he would have a better chance winning a title at UL than at USC. USC is not considered one of the big boys of the SEC, Spurrier struggled to keep USC in the picture.

What's Petrino's buyout? Petrino as learned his lesson, don't bite the hand that feeds you. He did it once, he won't do it again.
