After being the missing man of late, thought he came up huge tonight. His quality minutes early meant that guys were less tired at the end, critical in back-to-back games....

He and Benson are both no longer freshmen. They've played a full season. Cats are going to need every bit of what they've got in order to win this tourney. 3 games in 3 nights, let alone 4, must almost become a battle of attrition as fatigue sets in. The demands on our bench may go up tomorrow.

True, but it seems like his defense and ISO basketball draws the ire of coach. Man, Collins rides him hard and it makes him play scared at times. I worry a little about Brown's ability to take the abuse and grow from it.

Three words: Vinnie Microwave Johnson.

At least for now.

He'll get better (a lot better) and more consistent but for now, to call him a spark plug sells him pretty short. This guy is an inferno the second he comes off the bench.

There's a place for that in a game, used wisely. Like a coach intentionally getting Tee-d up.

He's learning that he can't just blow past people automatically like he could in Seattle. Once he adjusts, he's going to be even more fun to watch. His and-one yesterday was nice.

I think he learned that a while ago. His distance shooting is off. I think the small minutes aren't helping his shooting (I'll concede that it wasn't great when he had more minutes and more shots).

He's going to be great for NU and is already a contributor. Collins has set a high bar for him and he looks to be putting his head down and trying to reach it.

Totally understand that concern. Collins is harder on Brown than anyone else on the team...by far. But I think it's because he knows Brown has the potential to be a real good player. I trust the tough love approach is the right one in this case.

I used to tell my kids that all the time when they thought the coach was on them unfairly: if he's on you, it means you matter to him and he wants you to get better. The worst thing as a player is a coach who isn't riding you because that just one step away from being ignored.

this is it exactly

BMac graduates in a year. Brown is the one guy on the roster and among all the recruits that Collins sees as having the ability to replace BMac without missing a beat for the program.

Brown biggest liability is that he can get a shot off whenever he wants. The change that has to happen to his DNA is seeing his own offense as an option to only look at in the last seven seconds of the shot clock. Brown makes some spectacular passes.

He lost his man a few times on back door cuts. But, otherwise, he was well deserving of the Motel 6 6th man award last night. Sparkplug for us on offense.

And on inbounds plays. He has a lot to learn on defense and he's being targeted at this point. Other coaches ain't stupid. They see it too.

No one can replace Mac! Mac is a sensational passer and has played at an All Big Ten level! I like Brown to break the press! I am high on Jordan Ash who has come along well, lately! In two years, Ash and Brown will lead the back court, but no one can replace Mac who is the best in college, imho, when he is on! Mac or Law is our team MVP!

It's called coaching and Brown needs to be reminded, over and over again that you don't just bull rush your way up the court and throw up a shot. He needs to play in the offense and take the shot/drive when it's there. Also he needs to stop running into people when an opponent runs a low, backdoor cut Still he's a spark off of the bench and will be needed today because of the short turn around from last night.

Brown sure looks the part. His game could develop into something we've never seen at NU...the type of guy who is capable of taking over the closing minutes of a tournament game.

I have high hopes for Isiah. Imagine a BMac-Demps hybrid.

He gets to the hoop and knows how to use his body on the finish better than any freshman player I've seen at NU. And he's only gonna get better at that. His defense and lackadaisicle passing are what concern me, but I think he'll improve those areas next year.

That is true, so I'll go with "outside of McKinney".

I will say that I believe Brown has potential to be better than Walters. Different playing style sure (and I know what Walters did at Kansas), but I think that highly of Isiah. If Brown puts in the time, he could be outstanding. Seeing him in person sold me. The talent is there in spades.
