College basketball coaches are for the most part a pretty slimey sort, but Bruce Pearl is on a whole different level.

However, even though I’m sure he bends/breaks many rules to help build his program, he really can coach x’s and o’s. Understands how to use players and good in game coaching too.

Too bad it’s wasted on a dirtbag though.

College hoops is a cesspool. Concept of student-athlete is pretty much a joke with many schools, especially with all the one-and-dones. That's why NU has a much better chance to be competitive with the big boys in football.

Wasn't it Pearl who dropped the dime on Illinois for recruiting violations with Deon Thomas....want to say he was at Iowa

Yes.

Hail Calipri who saved us from a Bruce Pearl versus Kelvin Sampson battle. Coach Cal looks like a pillar of society next to those two.

When it comes to the Pantheon of Slime, no discussion is complete without the inclusion of Papa Rick, who, IMHO, is in the clubhouse with a seemingly insurmountable lead.

Well he is slippery and not as dumb as the other two that were caught red handed lying. At least Cal admits that his job is win Natty’s and produce NBA players and not to graduate players.

Calipari has an excellent graduation rate. Kentucky MBB had a perfect APR in its last three reports.

If you accept Pearl for what he is, tho, he’s wildly entertaining. He teared up again last night.

There are lots of sleazes everywhere — Pearl does it publicly.

Unfortunately, this is all too true. It's also why I'm proud to call myself a fan of Northwestern basketball.

Kelvin Sampson, Johnny Calipari and Will Wade cut from the same cloth. Any trends there?

The thing is, the networks (their commentators) don't seem to have any issue calling these coaches out for their infractions, but then turn around and hire them as analysts (until they get their next coaching gig).

Yeah, so much for hiring such great examples/role models for the student-athletes.

Btw, under his new contract, Cal will be getting paid over $11 mil (including the annual retention bonus); that's a lot of bones to coach a bunch of amateurs.

Someone made the point in an earlier thread, but it bears repeating: if the NBA lowers the eligibility age from 19 to 18, the one-and-done charade should go away and college basketball should become a more level playing field; but, like the Electoral College, those who benefit from the status quo will oppose any change until the last dog dies.

Lou Holtz came across as the lovable face of college football for years. However, in his wake, multiple college programs were left to deal with his problems-Arkansas, Minnesota , (Jets),Notre Dame and South Carolina
