before I purchase my yearly BTN+ for a month, are there any free streaming options folks might be using

I see a bunch of the early season games will be BTN+ again

I don't know about free streaming options, but I know from time to time BTN+ offers big discounts. I let my subscription lapse from last year and resubscribed when I saw a promotion some time ago. I think the proper BTN channel advertised for the promotion.

I’ve personally had a good experience with BTN+. I know some folks have issues with buffering or picture quality, but I think a lot of that comes down to your setup and internet speed. I use the Roku app and haven’t really had any problems. The only minor hassle is having to reauthenticate every week or two. The picture quality is pretty solid, not quite full HD, but it’s smooth and I don’t get any buffering or lag.

The broadcasts are usually done by UI students, sometimes paired with someone like Jess Settles when he is available. During commercial breaks, you just hear the arena noise since there aren’t any ads. It feels a little odd at first, but it’s kind of fun to see what’s going on in the arena during breaks. I’m curious to see if there’s noticeably more excitement in Carver this year compared to past seasons when it’s usually been pretty quiet (on the Men's BB side).

If you’re a fan of Iowa sports, BTN+ is a good deal. There’s tons of coverage of wrestling, men's and women’s basketball, and other Olympic sports you don’t get to see anywhere else.

It’s not perfect, but for me it’s been worth it just to be able to watch Iowa teams that wouldn’t be on TV otherwise. If you’ve got decent internet and are at least a little tech savvy, you’ll probably have a good experience.

Does B1G+ allow streaming the game after it’s over? I won’t be able to watch it live.

Looking ahead, it looks like cancelling it for the month of January and then restarting on February 11 will work to be able to get all the games, both men and women. I'll have 3 months of charges: Oct 30, November 30, and Feb 11. Not terrible

I subscribed 10-30 until 11-30 and will cancel until Feb 11th. I will miss the Lindenwood game on 12-13 but will get all the other games and only need to subscribe for 2 months.

looks like the men's team only has two games in November so depends on how well the women are doing I might just pay for one month

Sometimes you can find it on YouTube after it's been broadcast.
Livewire Sports Media channel on YouTube has had the exhibition and Southern games live. The game audio is no good but, you can sync up the audio from the Hawkeye radio broadcast team also on YouTube..

BTN+ is not a good product. Poor broadcasting and camera work. Very pricey. I don't need to watch the Hawks that bad.
Last night Jess Settles was part of the broadcast team. Not pricy at all if you watch multiple sports. I think you could purchase last week for $85. That gets me 10 men/womens basketball games, field hockey, volleyball, softball, baseball and volleyball misc games. Works out to less than $5 an event.

It’s funny how many people continue to come into this thread to complain about BTN+. Everyone already knows what it is. It’s a partially student-driven broadcast with basic production and beginner-level announcing. That isn’t news to anybody. If you hate the announcers so much, just do what I do for the wrestling broadcasts and pull up the Iowa announcer audio feed and sync the BTN+ video and Iowa audio.

If you’re constantly blaming buffering issues on BTN+, that’s probably your own internet. The stream works fine for people with a decent connection and setup.

BTN+ is the only way to legally watch a number of Iowa games that won’t be picked up anywhere else. It’s inexpensive and gives fans access to teams, sports, and other content we wouldn’t see otherwise. So either pay for it and understand what it is, or skip it. But acting like it’s some kind of disaster is just exaggerating for the sake of complaining.

I paid for 1 month starting Oct 30, I think. That gets me 4 women and 2 men BB games. Only a couple of bucks a game.

Have found both women's games streaming on YouTube for free. A 4 second commercial pops up every once in a while but that's it.
