My third Buffalo Trace tonight has me feeling good about Cats tomorrow. Can we please get a run going?

Good question. Both are delightful. Both have some nice caramely notes. Woodford, to me, is a little smoother and warmer but the flavors in Buffalo Trace are a little more pronounced. I put em both right at the same level but BT is about 10 bucks cheaper so I usually go with that myself. That value is really tough to beat.

Like both but love Jefferson's Ocean. Give it a try if you haven't. Won't regret it.

All good choices above. I'll add W. L. Weller 12-year old to the list. Reasonably priced, high quality, smooth. My brother-in-law turned me on to this one.

You probably had Pot Still. They don't actually give tasters of their high-priced gift shop bottles, unfortunately.

The gift shop releases are pretty rare, single barrel, and aged from 9 to 26 years. And they aren't cheap!

For other good bourbon, Elmer T. Lee, Weller 12 year, Weller 90 proof, Colonel EH Taylor's Barrel Proof and Single Barrel releases, and any of the Booker's, you can't go wrong. On the cheap, Corner Creek is a nice, mellow sipper.

Going outside of KY, Smooth Ambler's 9+ year bottlings are usually pretty good, as are the Bowman series. And if you venture into Tennessee whiskey, the barrel proof Jack Daniels was quite the surprise (and I don't like regular Jack, so that tells you something!).

Basil Hayden is a bit thinner and a good starter bourbon. Blanton's is one of the best as it's single barrel, which I love dabbling in. But my heart stays strong for the barrel proof releases of Willett, Colonel Taylor, and Booker's.

Oh, and if you get a chance to sample Limestone Branch's revival of Yellowstone bourbon whiskey, please do. One of the Beams (Steven, a friend of mine) fired up a new distillery in KY, and these are absolutely fantastic.

Thanks. Wish I could recall his username; haven't seen him post in quite a while now. Several of us from here met up a few times at Commonwealth before games, and had our own bourbon tasting. He was from Louisville and brought a bottle of NM once, and I loved it.

I love getting drunk and making a fool of myself, but straight alcohol has never tasted good to me. I so bad want to be one of those dudes who knows his bourbon....but the truth is, it's awful.

Blantons is very good,Angels Envy is the best I have tried,Turkey 81 is good and on the cheap side.

Well the tour guide waited until the rest of the guests left and made a big deal out of the fact that it was 13 years old and that they normally didn't let people sample it. Guess we got lucky.

Those are all good choices that you mention, and I have a bottle of Bookers on the counter, though I have not seen Corner Creek. I do recall enjoying some Gentleman Jack in the past.

Best $25 bottle of bourbon imo is Evan Williams 10 yr single barrel. Smooth as a babies butt.

I really do not like Angels Envy: thin (non-syrupy), citrus, medicinal and hot are not my ideal traits I got to for the backbone of a decent bourbon. Basil is similar but it mellows after a few sips.

Smooth Ambler 14, Blantons, Bulleit cask strength, Evan Willams single barrel is tasty at s good price, Pappy 15, woodford double oak.

Woodford is the shiznit. Especially in the brandy finish, great stuff. Other bourbons that cost a lot more might be a little more complex. It there aren't many in the >$60 range that come close to me.

Four Roses single barrel is my favorite whiskey under 50$. The nose is so sweet I could sit & sniff it for an hour before I even take a sip.

Henry McKenna 10yr bottle in bond single barrel is a great pour for $30 a bottle. Very similar to the Evan Williams single barrel, but 100 proof. Both are great for the money. Agreed on Buffalo Trace and Four roses, great bourbon for the price.

2016 William Larue Weller has been one of my favorite bourbons in years. I'm not saying it's the best, but for my preferences, it's the nectar.

Love Four Rose's, even the yellow label. Its my go to bargain bourbon. Dumbass Californians sell it for only 15.99 a bottle out here.

Been on an Eagle Rare kick as of late.

Only mixer I'll do and live these. Prefer straight on the rocks though.
  • 0.75 parts Triple Sec Liqueur
  • 1.25 parts Bourbon
  • 4 parts Lemonade
  • Lemon Wedge
PREPARATION
Combine ingredients in mixing tin. Shake vigorously with NO ice. Pour over ice in glass. Garnish with lemon wedge.
