Obviously not quite that level but he has dropped nearly 60 pts against 2 major opponents in the last 2 games with time left. He just has that feel for the game that you can’t teach.
Young was a special player in college. If Boo ends up anywhere near that ZIP code, we've really got something.Obviously not quite that level but he has dropped nearly 60 pts against 2 major opponents in the last 2 games with time left. He just has that feel for the game that you can’t teach.

He’s surprisingly good on defense, moves his feet, stays in front of a very good veteran PG in Moore, fights over screens, doesn’t foul.
It’s incredibly unfortunate that Collins kept putting the ball in Spencer’s hands in crunch time instead of in Boo’s. Spencer was so incredibly sloppy down the stretch but kept dribbling in circles and turning it over. Colins finally took him out in last 40 seconds. By then the damage was done.
And, yes, Spencer was critical earlier in game but it was clear he was hurting us down the stretch.
Yeah, ball can’t be in his hands down the stretch when there’s pressure. I rather have AJ Turner handling it—less upside but also less likely to get ball picked. Collins only came to his senses in last minute and took Spencer out, but it was too late.I tend to agree but they were also faceguarding Buie. Spencer is a competitor and what he’s done already is amazing for a lax player, but he’s clearly not a ball handler.

Yup, Spencer was critical during that stretch. But just hurts us too much in crunch time with the endless dribbling that eventually gets picked (or leads to the bizarre over and back when everyone was screaming at him to pass the ball). Needed AJ.In general I think Spencer played more than Collins might have planned due to the absence of Gaines, and the foul trouble for Nance, Young and Beran. I'm sure his keying us for a stretch beginning with his dunk had an effect on Collins' choice too.

Agreed. I love Spencer but he was playing hero ball and it completely ruined our momentum and was the game for us.It’s incredibly unfortunate that Collins kept putting the ball in Spencer’s hands in crunch time instead of in Boo’s. Can't wait!Liked Boo a lot when he committed and thought that he was being underrated by the recruiting services.
He's the best finisher driving to the basket since Juice (may be better than Juice even at this early stage) and if his 3 pt shot keeps going in w/ regularity, this kid has all the markings of being the best PG at NU since I've been a fan.
Boo has come up big in games against 4 P5 opponents in this young season (Pitt, BC, MSU and DePaul).
Absolutely can't wait til next season when Boo and Berry make up one heck of a backcourt (like it that both guards have the ability to bring the ball up).

Spencer has the skills of that guy who dominates your pickup games at SPAC but thinks the same stuff will work in major college games. Remarkable that he’s as good as he is and his elite athleticism makes for some fun moments, but he’s just not good enough to be a go-to ball handler in a tight game.

That’s what caused all this. They were face guarding Bouie and defending full court. So the ball fell into Spencer’s hands a lot. A more mature team might have handed the ball in the offensive 1/2 to Bouie. No passing lane, hand it over. But immaturity and maybe over confidence from and in Spencer left the ball with him too much.I tend to agree but they were also faceguarding Buie. Spencer is a competitor and what he’s done already is amazing for a lax player, but he’s clearly not a ball handler.
Spencer's roll should be the 7th or 8th man off the bench. He’s not a point guard but we put him there because there was a need and he brought a lot of intangibles. Now we have a real PG so Spencer needs another role, though I don’t mind having them both on the floor as a secondary ball-handler. Could be an all big ten 2 guard if he had 4 full years to develop given his athleticism and ferocity.
