It appears that only Jacob Gill and Anthony Tyus burned their redshirts as freshman last year. If Porter is ready to start year, Tyus might be limited to four games to regain his redshirt status.

It's interesting that Gill was selected by the coaches to burn his shirt over more highly touted classmates such as Jordan Mosley, who ended up transferring out. Sometimes stars don't give a true indication of future performance.

Mosley might not have been as ready as Gill as a freshman but it could be that Mosley would have developed more over the years and his future performance could have been better than Gill. We won't know.

On a more general note, while it's true that the more ready players burn their shirts, it doesn't necessarily mean that someone who plays the same position and keeps the shirt will have a lesser future than the one who burns - they might not be ready as freshman and could need more development but they could have a higher ceiling.

Gill arrived in June and had more time to learn the offense and the nuances of being a WR in said offense.
