A lot of talk about rankings this week. That is good for the rankers. But how good are the rankers? I guess it depends on your fandom at this point. But I thought I would look at where they disagree the most.

For these lists I took this weeks expected points per wrestler (or team) and calculated the variance among the three services (Flo, Intermat, Wrestlestat). From there we get the top 20 wrestlers they most disagree about:

Freshman Collin Gaj is an interesting one. After losing his first four matches of the year he has rallied to an 8-7 record. He jumped from #16 to #3 in the latest wrestlestat rankings after finishing seventh at CKLV. Sure he took out Lachlan McNeil, but 8-7, 7th at CKLV, 3rd in wrestlestat??? Maybe the wrestlestat version of Elo struggles with small sample sizes and is over-reacting to that win.

On the flip side at the same weight Kaleb Larkin is wondering what he did to offend. He stands at 10-1 on the season with a third place finish at CKLV, but no head-to-head against Gaj and he sits all the way down at #11 in wrestlestat.

At the team level the differences smooth out a bit, but they are still there.

The headline, of course, is that wrestlestat has anOSU ahead of PSU.

That is partly due to Nagao being dropped from wrestlestat, but not from Flo or Intermat (yet). But it also has to do with wrestlestat not much caring for PSU's big boys.

When did "anOSU" become a thing?

I just can't do the The thing.
I get it. I definitely have plenty of my own pet peeves. But, in the end, it really is only a lower case "t" in the front of it simply to differentiate between Oklahoma State, Oregon State and Ohio State.

I always just go OkState, OSU and tOSU.....
