It just occurred to me today. And this is especially applicable since Pope was on the 95 & 96 teams, that Butler is basically a slightly better version of Epps. Similar builds, and skillsets (except Butler is a little better than Epps in most ways).
That is a good point, Butler is a good bit better in most areas. Epps was pretty good but he didn't have to be as assertive on those teams as Butler does on this one. I am happy to get this far but now I'm getting greedy. It isn't out of the realm of possibility that we could beat UT. Both teams are due a crappy game in the tourney, maybe we can put ours off for another game or two.

I loved Epps in the 90s. If you remember, the 1996 team was a little sluggish out of the gate when Pitino was trying his failed Delk at PG experiment. That team didn't start really clicking until he put Epps at PG. I could go on for hours about Epps importance to that team. And he was damn good in 97 in a more prominent scoring role.

I do get Epps vibes from Butler, with the exception of Epps was a much better shooter. I would've loved to have four years of Lamont Butler. That kid is a winner, plays smart and busts his *** to the best of his ability every minute he's on the court.

Very good comparison I agree. I don’t know who’s better but they are both certainly the catalyst to each team and pure winners.

Yeah if I could have Butler for another year and not get a portal guard I’d take him in a heartbeat.
