By far the most frustrating year of watching Duke basketball since i started following in 78. Not the losses but the injuries, the unknown about them, K's surgery and now no matter what a new Grayson video everyday.I love the way he has played and he will go down as one of my favorites but you cant tell me that it isnt distracting to the team. Today I wake up and he shoved a coach. Meanwhile at end of article it says incidental contact but the article name"Grayson shoves coach" I know hes brought it on himself but it has become an absolute joke. espn has a guy look at every moment of him playing. Yet barely mentioning a 30 year cheating scandal. They should be ashamed. oh well its not even enjoyable this year

I've developed a dislike of ESPN through this whole thing. They have way too many holier than thou kinda guys on there, especially Around The Horn. They can't let anything go.

Or a prostitution scandal with UofL, Joe Mixon of Oklahoma hitting a woman in the face. ESPN is a disgrace anymore.

The most ridiculous thing is that Grayson was just simply going for a loose ball. Those clowns at ESPN, UNC fans, and UK fans are just trolling now! Of course when u dive for a loose ball you are more than likely gonna slam into the bench. U see it all the time in any basketball game.

Agreed; one of the most frustrating ever, by far. I think expectations play a big part of that.

Do you actually believe what you just wrote? Grayson absolutely pushed that assistant coach. Maybe he was just trying to get him out of the way so he didn't slam into him while flying in the bench.

I think when people say "push" what they think it implies is intent. Obviously he stuck his arm out and pushed... but not, I don't think, an intentional push to harm or anything.

When some "ESPN writer" analyzed every move Grayson made after exiting the locker room.

I have no idea what his intent was. It's so easy to watch something in slow mo and analyze it frame by frame, but I will say the push didn't seem necessary to me.

Most frustrated I've ever been mid-January with a Duke team. Mainly due to the expectations that I thought this could be one of the best Duke teams ever. At least last year most of us expected the type of season we had.....

I said in December..I'm losing my enjoyment for Duke Basketball...

It something I'd thought I'd never say...but all the injuries season after season...this stuff with Grayson...Coach K being out now..not enough players like last season...our continual stubbornness with defensive philosophy...individual selfishness....transfers....etc...

Just go down the list season to season now...watching Duke play isn't very enjoyable anymore...I can't remember ever so many seasons that where surrounded by all things that are not on the court.....it's frustrating...

This is from the assistant coach that Grayson supposedly "shoved" telling the real story.

Great to see that response - that is class. I doubt ESPN will take the story down or retract it - they are determined to destroy a young man - lets remember he is only just 21 and still in college. I find it reprehensible that any journalist or Company would go out of its way to keep casting aspersions on the character of any young person. The ACC should weigh in on Allen's behalf to make ESPN's behaviour the story and not Grayson's.

No doubt they SHOULD, but WILL NOT....Too much $$$ tied in with the upcoming network, etc, etc...Swofford not about to go sideways from his fellow alumnus Skipper at the network...

Is anybody really surprised by ESPN's reaction? I'm not. Their golden child lost the NC to a lowly ACC team in football and they are in mourning.

I'm an FSU fan who was at the game sitting right across from the FSU bench and I didn't see any problem with what happened, and neither did any other fans around me. I was surprised this was even an issue until I heard about it on Mike and Mike on my drive in this morning.

The video looks kinda bad in slow motion, but watch the play at normal speed and tell me what he was supposed to do, or what you would do in the same situation. Anybody running full speed, off balance, headed towards the bench and fans is going to put his hands up to protect himself. That is all that happened on that play and I am glad coach Gates explained it, even if it will fall on deaf ears at ESPN. It was a hustle play period.

Grayson is a great player that I can't stand as a fan of your opponent (in fact I can't stand Duke in general, but that is a different story) and he has done enough to warrant scrutiny, but this isn't one of those cases. It was a hustle play with a player trying to defend himself. Nothing more and nothing less.

Their other golden child lost on a buzzer beater against Villanova also!

espn posts that the coach says it wasnt dirty but leaves out his comment great hustle play.. and its not what the media is portraying.. they are slime balls at espn. i only watch the games now. It went from something great to what we have now which is nothing more than tabloid television like E! These writers/announcers finding fault in everything that they could never accomplish as non athletes. And the athletes they do have are hypocrites and one is our own JW. At least i watch less tv now.

That should officially be the end of it (until the next comically ridiculous overreaction and over-analysis), but there are far too many willingly stupid people - ESPN included - to let that be the case. But I love that the actual FSU coach involved in the bare-knuckle street fight the media is reporting is addressing the silliness of it all.

Espn sucks plain and simple, they've become TMZ of sports. I wish every Duke game would be on one of the Fox sports channels, if I remember not one of those guys chimed in during the game about Graysons suspension when they played BC.

What do you expect? As I've said many times- they're foaming at the mouth. We are talking about slowing down a video of a kid going 100mph to dive and save a loose ball. Wow.

Only time I ever go to espn is to watch a game, that's it. They don't deserve my clicks and eye balls.

Can I ask a question about this? Let me preface that as a UNC fan I've been extremely envious of your recruiting and frustrated with our lack of success relative to you guys. However, when UK started the OAD trend, I had two thoughts. First, it must be extremely hard to get all the freshman up to speed. And if a couple don't pan out, you could be in real trouble.

Second, I thought if UNC players were constantly turning over year after year, I would fee less connected to the team. I like watching these guys grow and mature.

Do you feel any of that at times? This isn't a shot, just curious is all.

I feel that in this day and age the best way to recruit is to land a few elite five stars (which obviously only a few schools have the ability to do) and blend them with some veterans who have been around. It's also important to land some four star guys that will be around a few years. And I feel Duke does this better than anyone.

I would prefer the roller coaster over having a team full of juniors and seniors that has already reached its ceiling.

For me at least it's less about the turnover of players...

I'm really tired of not being able to get players on the court, practice, and ancillary stuff off the court..EX. Grayson or Austin Rivers....Sulaimon...Thornton...etc.......I do think there is a potential problem with Duke Strength and Condition program...

Off the top of my head since the 2010 team..Kyrie got hurt, Ryan Kelly got hurt, Coach K's brother passed, The Austin Rivers supposed Drama, Curry was hurt, Amile got hurt, Transfers, Not enough players, Coach K out, Grayson stuff, and now these guys are not in shape because of their problems...it's just enough is enough...

The Tyus..Okafor..Winslow group is the only team since 2010 to not have all this stuff...it's not enjoyable...a team can't even develop from the beginning of a season to the end with all of these things...and even Okafor got hurt in the UNC game and had to overcome it late in the season..but it was late and they had all been together awhile...

Edit^^even that team had to deal with the Sulaimon off the court stuff come to think of it....

I guess you're looking at a very sensationalized situation as a fan- in 2015 we also had for the first time in program history a dismissal of a team, ironically right after a couple bad losses where our team looked completely lost and defeated. We only had eight guys and didn't run full practices. Sounds similar but right now no team has had more adversity than this years squad, ever. It has little to do with the OAD era- you can't predict your going to have threee frosh out to start the year, have another one hurt and not practicing then lose your coach and fifth year senior captain and have the off the court media blow up of Grayson.

2011 sucked bc Kyrie was the best player in the country on a returning natl championship team.

2013 had nothing to do with Seth. He couldn't practice but it didn't affect him or the team bc he had a great year. Ryan Kelly going down hurt us and causes us to get a 2 seed in Lville bracket.

The Austin Rivers situation as some call it is complete uneducated ******** which some like to use as an excuse. Believe me there was stuff going on but it sure wasn't all on him and not even close.

This year isn't a great gauge because there have been an insane amount of obstacles preventing this team from coalescing (and they might not ever - that window might be closed). But as far as the amount of one-year players, in general I have no problem whatsoever. As stated above, they need to be mixed with older guys, which is mostly how Duke has done it. This team, for example, was supposed to be adding a great crop of freshmen to three upperclassmen with championship experience.

Ultimately, if the choice is whether to get guys like Kyrie Irving, Jahlil Okafor, Jabari Parker, Tyus Jones, Brandon Ingram, etc., I'm never, ever taking any other option. You get as many of those caliber guys as you can 100% of the time.

I have been a Duke Basketball fan for around 25 to 26 years which I know is less than some of you on the board, but I must say that as the years go on and the one and done has become prominent for us I do feel a disconnect with the team. It seemed as if the 2015 team had been playing together for years and had a great bond. I think that is few and far between these days when guys are out the door after 9 months. It is hard to watch this current group of underclassman, either they do not understand what it means to put on the Duke jersey and play for something bigger than themselves or they simply do not care and are worried about the paycheck that will be coming their way in June. After watching this group of Freshman the only one I see that wont be in the D league is Tatum and even he may be playing there.

Really wish the ACC would cut ties with ESPN. Very jealous that the Big East is on Fox. Wish we'd have looked to start the ACC Network with either Fox, CBS sports, or NBC sports.

And yes, this season went from possibly being the best Duke season's ever to being the most frustrating and disappointing Duke season's ever. Especially with this bizzare obsession people have with every little movement Grayson Allen makes. But I guess if the election taught us anything it's that controversy and conspiracy are very popular right now and it sells even if it's not rational or if it's based on some alternate reality people have created in their own minds to make their view of things seem "right"
