Cal's always done stuff like this and it never sat right with me when people accused him of doing it just for publicity or to distract from when his teams weren't doing so great.

I would never accuse him of doing it for publicity.

That said, I have a hard time understanding the need to announce a donation. What purpose does it serve other than to gain the admiration of your fellow humans? God sees what you do or don’t do. That should be all any of us are concerned about.

Puts eyeballs on the issue and leads to more donations from other people. I'm up in NJ and don't pay attention much to the news, especially Kentucky area news, and I honestly had zero clue about this.

He didn't. The media did.

I am glad that someone understands how the PR game is played.

Who let the media know about it? If Cal chose to provide an anonymous gift, no one would have known. The money spends the same, but he certainly didn't try to avoid the publicity. it is no different than athletes who give turkeys for Thanksgiving and bicycles for Christmas. It is always done in ways to attract attention.

You know, maybe, just maybe, we shouldn't give a ****. That money will help the people of EKY.

Agree. The right hand should never know what the left hand is doing.

The media very rarely knows about stuff like this unless it's announced to them in some way.

I'm sure it's through a foundation; donation hits with a well known foundation name, gets reported to the media

Cal sent a tweet announcing it, but what is wrong with that? What is wrong with letting the people in a state you spent so many years of your life in know that you are helping out? If this wasn't made public, he is probably taking heat for NOT helping out. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

Said it time and time again- it was time to split- but the people who used personal insults and acted like cal stole their woman/man are pathetic

Hell, we probably shock em into playing like crap and get a win if we gave em the standing o they definitely weren’t expecting but definitely deserved (cal not the players)
He didn't steal their women or men; he just took money that he stopped working for.

lol

Stopped working for. Remind me why everyone was so mad at the losses in the ncaa? Was it because we snuck in after an awful year and were an 8 seed upset by a 9? Nope. I believe we were like a 2 and 3 seed. Which is a top 10-15 team. A better regular season than we will end up with this season which most are willing to forgive.

Nah, people acted like petulant children because their entire lives and happiness are dependent upon 18-21 year olds winning basketball games. They forget anything other than what happened that instant because again their entire happiness is predicated by the results of each game. It’s pathetic.

The new era of college sports chewed cal up. He didn’t stop working. He didn’t stop caring. He didn’t suddenly start trashing UK. He didn’t do anything that should lead to some of the things said about him here. It was absolutely pathetic. Should be a UK legend and probably still will be but based off how a big portion of this board treated him- again, outside of basketball discussion- would make me wonder why the hell he’d wanna.

It was clear to anyone who paid any attention to what was happening that Cal stopped caring and stopped coaching. He was only interested in making generational changes in his players lives.

Cal says he donates: Can you believe he’s doing this for publicity?

Cal donates and doesn’t say: Remember when Cal did that charity work? Now that he’s gone, he shows how little he actually cared. Why didn’t he donate this time?

I have absolutely zero problem with him announcing he's donating money cause he's actually trying to help and did so. We're all glad he's gone as coach but he did a LOT of things like this when he was coach. Puerto Rico, the tornadoes, and the floods two years ago.

Now I do have a problem with "influencers" who have to film themselves giving money to the homeless or whomever cause they're 100% doing it for likes and clicks. Especially cause 99% of the time the money comes from either sponsors or people they've scammed. I've helped homeless people more than I can count, but I sure as hell never filmed it.

Ok I get the aspect that people do these things just to get a pat on the back but if you think for a minute that if Pitino, Pope, Stoops, etc donated and that it wouldn’t be made know public you’re lying to yourself.

What about when Pitino was acting all macho because he donated $15,000 to UK’s NIL? I didn’t hear one single complaint. Why did he make that known public?

Or what about when Pope bought ice cream for everybody after that game this year, they could’ve came over the intercom and said “everybody who stayed after is welcome to a free ice cream.” If some of y’all’s logic remained, those fans didn’t need to know where the money came from. But instead Pope made it clear that they had Lee Anne’s credit card.

Yeah I know big deal just ice cream is what some of y’all will say. But still…see how this works?

Quit attacking everybody over everything. In all seriousness some people need a break from the internet. Social media and message boards have taken away the peace from many souls these days.

Take a break!
