Hard to argue with that.

Losses @ USC (Downey), @IU (Watford), SECt vs Vandy (the give up game) and then Mich State.

Not too bad. 189-27 overall. That's a lot of games as #1!

I'd be curious what is the win percentage all-time of ALL number one teams. It must be close to 85-90 percent when you figure that almost all Top 15 teams would be better than 80 percent (28-7, for example.)
You're right...sorry I got excited....

look at it this way -

we've played 216 games ever as the #1 ranked team and Cal has coached 44 (20%) of them. He's won 91% of those games which is slightly better than our all-time winning % as #1 team which is 88% (189-27 record....take away Cals games and obviously the all-time % would be lower)

so once again Cal is exceeding the gold standard (of whatever category) previously set by UK teams of the past.

There's this thing called parity...

Tubby had a stretch of about four games ranked number #1. And that was our longest stretch since 1978 until Cal. Don't be too quick to downplay this achievement. Some schools have fared a little better, but 85-95% is a pipe dream in the modern era.

Great post OP with interesting stats. Cal is having an incredible run. I really don't think there is any doubt that Kentucky is the best program in college basketball right now.

I wonder, over that same time period, who would be #2 on the list, and how their record looks. Just curious.

Pretty sure the Kansas team that lost to Northern Iowa went into the NCAA #1 and was #1 for the majority of the season.
