...at least for November and December. Pretty sobering assessment. Sounds like he knew people were jacked after the Bahamas and expecting more than this team could deliver -- at least early.

"We're not where we want to be right now...We could be a little shaky (in November and December.)"
And, "What we have to do to win at the highest level is going to take us some time..."
I think the last time he was this blunt was before the 2013 season.

Well, I know we have at least 2 quality shooters. Which is 1 more than we usually have, and 2 more than some Cal teams have had.
I see CJ and Reeves, but not positive that Reeves will be consistent enough through the entire season. Hope I’m wrong. And still wondering if his D will keep him on the court to try to be.

I ran the video through a coach speech decoder and it spit this out.

I feel better now.

I have been thinking this for a while. Makes sense. Offense is going to take time. Still not convinced we have enough quality shooters.
We dont have anyone that can take someone off the dribble AND finish. The lack of creating good offense is what scares me and returning to the stagnant dribble the ball until 10 on shot clock before anyone moves.

He could use the freshman excuse when he had freshman led teams, this team has veterans and other experienced players on it and he is saying they might be ready or will be slow out the gate, that’s not good

Not really what you want to hear with a veteran team, and coming off of extended practice time with the Bahamas.

Maybe I’m misremembering, but I thought I saw Cal say this team was ahead of what he was thinking, on the offensive end, a couple weeks back?
It probably was ahead offensively, until he got a hold of them. He stagnates offensive basketball.

Enjoy the ride. Lots of moving parts to fit together. Don’t need or want to be #1 right now.

I like them to start slowly. Be humbled. Get hungry and be scared a bit. Learn to work hard everyday. Develop chemistry through good practices. It’s not where they start it’s the finish.

I like what he said. It’s not all daisies and rainbows. We will get there and it will be fun to watch the pieces develop. Patience grasshopper.

Not exactly what I wanted to hear considering our OOC schedule…
What he is saying is this. I didn’t coach them in the Bahamas, my staff did. We ran and scored and the kids played loose and had fun. Now I am back coaching again and the players are having trouble learning my stand around offense and waiting for the shot clock to get to 2 before shooting. We will take a beating from Michigan State but should be able to beat Piss Ant U by 10 or 12. Should be a good season. Keep the faith. That is the long version of what he is saying.

I like to start ok, get better as the season goes, and be damn good at the end. Shouldn't have to watch boring basketball 80 percent of the year.
