River House - good, great or nah?

I have eaten at Varanese over on Frankfort Ave. and liked it very much. Have heard good reviews about his newer joint River House from two people. But i thought i would come to the self proclaimed experts on Louisville dining before making any final plans.

Go.

Its solid. Great setup and bar. Food is good/consistent. Not the best meal in town by any means but still really good.

I went last week for the first time. It was good not great. If you sit outside, the river view is nice. Probably a good place to take a date. Its located about 20 feet from the King Fish and the two sets of diners couldn't be more different.

Sounds good thus far. So many great dining choices in Louisville though. Maybe include star rankings on this particular joint to help a brother choose more wisely. TIA

I think the trend in the thread "good but not great" pretty much sums it up. It was OK but I would rather hit many other places first.

Someone hit it perfectly, good, not great, but good for a date night. Had a lot of great apps the two times I ate there but like others have said, the actual meal was good, not spectacular.

WTF! Where is the snark and condescension the Paddock is known for. :scream::joy:

I'll second the wings from mommas. Also, if you are there for lunch, they do a good grill cheese with pulled pork or brisket. The rest of the line up there is OK.

Red Barn Kitchen is pretty good. The pork and beans is awesome.

Had Martins BBQ the other day near Springhurst. Brisket was decent, Alabama wings were good. Worst ribs I've ever eaten at a restaurant that had BBQ in the name. Maybe it was just an off moment for them. Everyone speaks highly of the Nashville location.

FABD is my fav though.

I had dinner at the River House about 2 months ago as part of a work function. The ribs were really good. I'm not a seafood eater so I opted for the chicken parmesan and it was delicious. Over all, it wasn't a bad meal at all.

Lexington food scene has improved greatly the last few years but still way behind the Ville. Love these threads so I can find new places to go when I head west on 64.

Another vote for FABD although it's probably not in line with the OP's original question.

No problem. I have already decided to give the River House a go. Perfectly happy for this thread to transition to any/all food recs.

Carry on...
