Bought a Vivoactive HR a few weeks ago.

Today I helped my dad do reno work on a rent house. Average heart rate for 5 hours was roughly 108 BPM, though that mountains and valleys and nothing close to a steady burn.

I'm 6'2, 202 lbs. Using a few of the heart rate calorie burn calculators online, my estimated burned calories is roughly 2800 for that 5 hour period....

I find this absurd.

The watch itself, currently at 10 pm, shows ~3600 calories burned on the day. Probably absurd, but better for a 22 hour period than 2800 in a 5 hour period.

Anybody have any experience with this watch or others like it? Any guidance on the accuracy or appropriate use of the calorie estimator equation?

I agree with the hear rate monitors, they all seem to calculate extremely high calorie numbers. It's not just yours

I have to be real careful with these and not rely on them to set my intake. I ran -0 miles this morning and now my Garmin says I should consume about 4800 calories today. I’m sitting around 1900 in about to eat dinner. No way I could consumed another 3k and not gain weight.

I believe I burn about 100 calories per mile, so probably spent an additional 1000 calories today on top of my 2500 or so average daily rate.

Most guys can eat about 2,000 calories a day and maintain same weight without working out. This +\- of 300 or so for age/body build.

Not sure how anyone can consume 4800 at any activity level and not gain weight.
