Well none of these WRs these days have that fire and while power guys like the GOAT Jerry Rice had. Guys now days seem to retire early compared to the 80s and 90s guys. Barry Sanders doesn't count because that pour guy never had a decent Oline at the Lions so i can imagine the extra pounding he took. And isn't his son Barry Sanders Jr transferring this year too? Any chance we could snatch him up or is he not anywhere near his father?
Most of these guys will make more than Jerry did in a career I would imagine considering the way salaries have moved up over the years.
A guy like Aikman made what, 8 million a year winning a bunch of super bowls. Joe Blow off the street who wins a few games can get in the ball park of 20 mill a year now.

Theres a number of guys who play a long time in the league that are still healthy...Jery Rice, Brett Farve, Steve Young, Emmit Smith, Ronnie Lott and bunch of them. Yes there are some that payed the price but its not exactly a high percentage of guys. Its like what Rice said, a lot of it has to do with how you prepare yourself body wise and take care of yourself. Somethings happen thats out of your hands and no matter how hard you train, i get that part. Well i guess if hes ready, has the money saved up and planned out right, he'll be fine.
Calvin has had a lot of injuries these past few years. He has played 9 years and the Lions aren't getting any better. He will still go down as one of the most dominant receivers of all time.

At least he isn't just dogging it the last few years and raking in the $$$$. He's decided that he's had enough and is being up front about it. Good for him.
Well the positive side of things it frees up a ton of moeny they can use on someone else but i bet they wished they had that money freed up before they lost the beast Suh to the Dolphins.

You think these guys are still healthy. I work with a guy that played in the league several years and in Canada a couple. He looks like a Greek statue in his forties. He told me years ago that he played his career relatively injury free, and he feels it every day he rolls out of bed. He said at the time he would not be upset if his sons played soccer. They are both really great track stars today. Just saying.
You obviously have never been here. I'm sure you don't like people making ignorant comments about Nebraska as a state.

I think this is a bit of a trend...a small trend right now but I think it will grow. That second contract for most of those guys seems to be the big one...get to that contract, sign it, play it out and retire.
Wonder if he will just sit this year and try to come back in 2017 to a contender? Probably not, but would be interesting if he got on a team like the Pats/Panthers/Packers.
As a life long Lions fan, I am bummed to see him go. Apparently we can't see our stars get old (Barry, I miss you). But I am grateful for his service and am glad that in 20 years he will be able to walk, unlike so many other guys that play too long. Thank Megatron.
And how do you think most of America thinks about Nebraska? Doesn't make them right.
To be brutally honest, I think most of America thinks most of Nebraska is fly over country, and I agree with them.

You're right. Detroit is a paradise, snd a desirable place to live. I may move the family up there.
