from students for fraudulent classes? It seems reasonable that SACS would direct UNC-CH to do that for the paper AFAM classes as well as any other fraudulent classes, whatever the department. In addition, can SACS also direct UNC-CH to offer the students affected free classes to make up for those classes. I thought that I had read that UNC-CH was offering free classes but don't know for sure.

If this happened, then the impact would be that many affected athletes would not have been eligible and any games in which they participated when ineligible would have to be vacated, including NCAA championships.

This, of course, would be in addition to showing that procedures are now in place to rectify the fraudulent class problem.

I would appreciate feedback on this.

The SACS can only accredit a school's activities as valid educational proceedings, or not validate them...it's all or none

However, the SACS can threaten to dis-accredit and give the school time to get its house in order and then review the situation at some point in the future and either accredit (or dis-accredit) at that time

Yes, SACS did force UNCheat to offer the kids who took bogus courses a free replacement class or classes to correct the wrong-doing; and UNCheat has been doing it, but let's be honest: who just starting their working career with a UNC degree already in their pocket is going to go back to school for one or two lousy classes? Not too many, I'll bet.

I think the other thing to recall is that SACS told UNCheat to offer replacement classes when the magnitude of the problem was described by UNCheat as being only "a couple of rogue admin types", implying that the number of students was minimal as well

However, it wasn't a "couple" of people and it was over 3000 students who took these bogus classes, half of whom were athletes

In essence UNCheat either by design or incompetence is hung out to dry on this.
