Can someone explain to me how Rae Carruth got out of prison?

This POS plotted the murder of his pregnant girlfriend. How is this man out of prison and in 9 months allowed to go wherever he chooses. Who would sign off on a deal to allow him to be out so soon. I cannot for the life of me figure out the justification for him ever seeing the light of day again outside of a prison yard.

Carruth did not speak to reporters as he left the prison wearing a knit cap and an unzipped jacket on a chilly morning with temperatures in the high 30s. There was a smattering of applause as Carruth got into a white SUV and was whisked away from the prison

Charlotte Observer ran a 7 part series reprinted in the LHL online newspaper. Was really interesting, and included an extensive review of the trial both from the perspective of the defense and prosecution, and why the jury settled on the verdict it did. The shooter, who Carruth hired to kill his girlfriend, will be in jail until 2046. In essence, the writer came to the conclusion that the jury reached a compromise verdict, partially because the prosecution chose to cut a deal with the shooter taking first degree murder off the table, i.e., no chance for death penalty. Carruth did serve 19 years, not what he deserved, but not a slap on the wrist either.

I would argue 19 years is a slap on the wrist considering the result of his crime.

The same way this guy got off for slashing a six year old boy to death in his bedroom in Versailles, KY.

Man I forgot that crap.

That was AWFUL. He was too psycho to be charged with murder but not psycho enough to beat an assault charge or something stupid.

Understand completely, and I have only seen the place from the outside, thank God, but I would argue that 19 years in Eddyville state prison would seem like a very long time.

1 minute in any prison would seem like a very long time. 19 years for having someone murdered, no matter how tough the prison, is a slap on the wrist.

It is, but not long enough for plotting to kill your pregnant girlfriend. IMO

I can't argue, but the prosecution elected to take premeditated murder off the table IIRC, because they already cut a deal with the actual shooter, was a mixed up trial, IMO

Killers, rapists, pedophiles...folks alot more dangerous than Carruth are released every day from prisons. The current trend in corrections is re-entry into society. Gone are the days of lock them up and throw away the key. And with the cost of incarceration, if they can kick them out, they will.

Now he can go back to playing football. They said he wants to also raise his son that survived as he is handicapped obviously. I’m sure that will go over well

Carruth is a sociopath. Now he's a hardened criminal with prison experience.

He's never sincerely apologized for his role, always placing blame at some point or another. The letter to the grandmother was just pitiful. Trying to talk his way into it like a weasel and bringing up the grandmothers inevitable death (she's just older) as a reason for him to have his son

1. He has his girlfriend killed, helps in the murder, and leaves her to die.

2. Doesn't except the outcome. Lies and fights for years.

3. Has actually blamed the victims.

4. Writes letter to the woman who raised the child he tried to murder, and the mother of the woman he did murder, bringing her future death into it saying" come on, you can't live forever. Someone will have to care for chancellor someday". Imagine the man that killed your daughter and tried to kill your grandchild writing you a letter telling you that you'll die soon and you need to hand over the child? And also, after doing all of this to you, he's going to be a free man

Anyone who has an ounce of sympathy or excuses for this man or why hes getting out can suck one. And hes got his followers believe it or not.

He should have been locked away for life no questions asked.

Sociopath.
