I, like many, have been a variety of adjectives in the Brent Venables era. "Excited" about the defense. "Disappointed" with the offense. "Perplexed" with game management. The on field results opened the door for genuine question and concern as to whether Venables was "the guy".

Now there's still a long way to go, but for the first time in what feels like eternity, I feel like I can truly see the vision that was promised. And with some progress on offense, where I think the pieces are there for the near future, we could be watching the worst team Venables is gonna have for a while, make the playoffs.

I could list a lot of things this team has done right since the loss to Texas, but I'll just say one. The grit, fight and togetherness is the main reason this team has a chance to make the playoffs, taking nothing for granted Saturday. They took a devastating blow in the Red River Rivalry. They got up. Lost a heartbreaker to Ole Miss. They got up. They really had to come to terms with the offense losing its way. They said we'll win with defense. For 5 games straight there were moments they could have broke but they found to victory 4 times and fumbled away one but they never went belly up when it looked to tough.

We Sooner fans know a soft team when we see it. Soft jumped on a 3 AM flight for Los Angeles four years ago. Brent came in and flushed out all the soft. It took a while, and it aint perfect, but I think we got the right guy just in time to join the hardest league in football.

Just a side note: the Sooner media team releases weekly videos following games called "Unhitch the Wagons" on their social media accounts. They are really good and you can get great insight to Brents relationship with the players and the message he's preaching.
