What does Collins have to do differently to capitalize on the momentum of this tourney win and this season that he was not able to do after the 2017 season?

It depends on what “capitalize on the momentum” means. 2018 was such a disappointment because almost all the key contributors from 2017 returned.

If Collins gets Buie and Audige to come back for their final year of eligibility, that’s a lot different than any other scenario.

There are good players on the NU team but if those 2 leave, the task is a lot different. Does “capitalize on the momentum” mean that we have a tournament team…every 4 years? Every 3 years? More regularly than that?

Can we just enjoy this win? I hate to sound like a coach but this happens like twice in my lifetime. There are less posts about the win than our new running backs coach. I think more people like to ***** than celebrate and praise. Not saying that’s you. Just an observation.

cats dominated this game throughout. It was awesome.
Just got back from Sacramento.

What a win and experience. First time at March Madness and boy was it memorable.

The purple pep rally was crowded but loads of fun! Free food!

Purple was everywhere. I'm guessing it was 60/40 Purple versus Boise. UCLA of course seemed like the dominant fanbase as expected. The stadium was generic but the sight lines and concourse were really nice and spacious.

The guys behind us remarked "Damn, Northwestern travels well"! I think our West Coast alums showed out!

Go U!

We had at least double, maybe triple the # of fans Boise did. They filled their one section (and were very nice in my experience). We had our section and many more all over the arena. I’d say 70/30 if we are counting just the purple vs blue/orange. And then yeah, lots of UCLA fans.

As for the dominance, I wouldn’t use that word. But if we’d been better rebounding & if they hadn’t hit like half a dozen shots with the shot clock at 1 or 0, it would have looked a lot more like a blowout. We were significantly better. UCLA gonna be real tough.

This is probably nitpicking, but Boise State got too many offensive rebounds….
That's not nitpicking. 20 offensive rebounds by a team whose tallest starting player was 6'7". We're lucky in a way that they missed so many second chance shots in the second half.

NU has to do better at finding a body and boxing out on rebounds.

It's funny, because the TV cameras showed the same 12 fans every time.

They space, they don't clog the paint, harder to box out that way. Still, at least 3x as many offensive rebounds as they should have gotten.

The first possession of the 2nd half was, I thought, a little example of how the game was for us. Always something getting in the way of us pulling away:
1) Ref blows an out of bounds call that should have gone to NU
2) We play good defense, their possession looks awful
3) With a few seconds left we triple team by the sideline
4) They get out of the triple team and hit a last second 3

Yes west coast alums showed up but there were a lot like us that flew in.

And I was not a math major but it sure seemed like 90/10 northwestern to Boise fans.

70/30ish sounds right. But much louder and more organized. UCLA had a lot of fans but notably less enthusiastic (they did not stand). I grew up a UCLA fan—knowledgeable, large fan base but not known for being overly passionate.

I’m guessing we will be outnumbered Saturday, but plenty of CA alums should be there for the weekend. We’ll bring the juice.

They kept showing one kid, and my wife said, "They're just hoping he'll cry so they can get another viral video." Great to see the ponchos every time we "made it rain" 3-pointers.

The little girl dancing in front of Doug Collins was adorable. She was just a happy kid having a great time.

I’m concerned for Doug Collins health after this game and rewatching the 2017 Vanderbilt win.

He really looks like his blood pressure is sky high (beet red face and bulging eyes), and at his age… you gotta take it easy. His son is already very wealthy and only going to get wealthier after this season.

I’m sure not just his. during the game I checked my heart rate. Resting 62 at that moment it was 124.

At breakfast this morning, one of the 2017 team managers told me that Ben Skowronek was the first one who ripped open the poncho package at the pregame rally. Then Taphorn, Hall, and Malnati followed suit. Strong leadership from the Super Bowl winning Notre Dame product. 🤣

Wait… so does Skowronek identify as a Northwestern diehard or a Notre Dame guy??

A lot of your posts recently start or end with how much money someone has. What’s the deal?

Because our two revenue programs are trailing badly in the NIL era, and our wealthiest benefactors can finally use that to our advantage and maybe be relevant in college basketball?

Hell, I’ll even contribute heavily to a GoFundMe if it can get Boo back.

Man! I would have loved to be anywhere near Fitz at that game. Somebody should have sponsored the Sri from the foot ball team a trip. Wish I had money.
I was telling my friend who just arrived in Sacramento for tomorrow's game that I wish there were a camera and mic on Fitz like the Manningcast.

Sitting across the aisle from him and hearing him berate the refs for most of the game is an experience I'll never forget. 🤣
