UVA is 3-6. Defeated Cards last year in weird low scoring game. I remember our O starting inside the 10 nearly every possession. We still had control but had a muffed punt to seal it.

UVA opened @ UCLA then came home and almost beat ND, losing by 7. They got destroyed by Boise and are 2-3 in conf play. Looking over their schedule the Boise game was their ownly awful performance.

Looking over some stats, it appears their O and D are in similar places, below average territory.

Great chance for the Cards to clinch a bowl berth and continue moving forward after a tough start to season.

I think we get it done in a game decided by 10 pts or less.

Thoughts?

Virginia is the type of team that rarely gets blown out but isn't good enough to beat most teams.

We have an offense that will not want to control itself. If we get a window, we could put up some large numbers. Louisville's game-winning strength this season remains defensively. Of all the games we were closest to winning of the first 3, Clemson was closest. And that was in the midst of rookie disasters.

It's funny how strange it feels to be favored and suspect a win, lol. We got bludgeoned early this year. Badly so. Right smack in the ego.

Top competition is what we wanted. I guess I would have maybe preferred it sprinkled throughout the card of the season instead of all front heavy. We sensed Houston would be legit and they made our fears reality. Good games for our young players to be competing in. Hoping to see fruits of that labor over time.

watched a replay of UVA/Miami last night. It appears overall UVA is a better team than last year. Their D last year, in my opinion was better, but their Offense this year is better and more effective than last year. Also, many pundits say their coach"s job is on the line so they will be motivated.

Cavs are in the 80's defensively,91 offensively.Agree with shamcard, they score more.On paper,I like the matchup. They are a better passing team,so the pressure and db's need to to be there.

Virginia and Syracuse are pretty evenly matched statistically. They played a really close game at Virginia which Virginia won 44-38 in 3 overtimes.

On offense Virginia has much better success in the air than on the ground. Their offense doesn't really pose a huge threat to Louisville's defense. Their offensive stats don't scream big play ability.

They don't score a bunch of points 24 points a game which is ranked 94th.
They are 93rd in the country in yards per completion.
Virginia is like Louisville in running the ball, they struggle 104th in rushing offense where Louisville defense is ranked 11th in rushing defense.
Virginia is much better passing ranked 64th where Louisville is ranked 36th in passing yards allowed.

With how Louisville is playing on defense they should be able to limit what Virginia does on offense. The Louisville defense should hold them to high teens (17) to low 20's.

On defense Virginia isn't great either.
They are ranked 97th in scoring defense, giving up 32 points per game.
They are ranked 57th in rushing defense
They are ranked 94th in passing yards allowed
They aren't ranked high either in tackles for loss or sacks

Louisville offensively should have a decent day running and a really good day throwing the ball. Louisville has faced much better defenses and still put up decent numbers. You have to believe they will put up decent numbers against this Virginia defense high 20's to low to mid 30's.

Limit the turnovers and Louisville should win this game with relative ease.

A few reasons for UVA to be motivated tomorrow:
*Beat us last year in what most think was a game when both teams were slightly better.

*A bowl elimination game for the Cavs.

*Their HC Mike London is under fire but he is a players coach and his guys are still playing hard for him.

*And Finally, Virginia is trying to break a 4 year losing streak away from home. They haven't won a road Game since upsetting FSU in Tallahassee in Nov. 2011.

I'll say Louisville-30 Virginia-21

I agree w/ everything you say, as always. This game figures to go to the wire. As the FSU poster pointed out, UVA stays in just about every game. We haven't shown enough consistency to lead me to believe we'd coast. Even last week's romp took a pic 6 to turn the game midway through the 2nd.
