12 dead in erratic driving head on collision in truck vs church van. Older people. Half as bad as Carrollton. 27 died then. Don't drink and drive

Really tragic situation. My heart goes out to victims and their families.

Heard one account indicating the driver of the dually Dodge truck drove recklessly.

It was a 20 year old who has apparently admitted to texting while driving....

Saw this report last night. Tragic, indeed.

The dipsh$t drove while distracted. No excuses. Death penalty or, at the very least, life without parole. Hopefully these folks have not died in vain. Nationwide legislation is required to keep motor vehicle operators' heads out of their damn smartphones while the vehicle is in motion.

I'm pretty tough on crime, but that's a little extreme.

I'd give him five years, but make him write a $1 check to the family of each of the victims along with an apology note daily for the rest of his life. This will make sure he thinks about what he did every single day.

Pretty sure it is illegal in most places

It is. It's just really hard to enforce.

Also, I'm for outlawing compensators - I mean dually trucks - for people younger than 25 who don't own/work on a farm or construction business. Because if you own/work on a farm or construction business, chances are good you might need one to do actual work. If you're 5'4," work in an office, dress like Luke Bryan and drive a RAM dually, chances are you just have a tiny dick or watch too much CMT.

Hate it for the victims' families and for the young dumbass who ruined a bunch of other people's lives + his own.

Video of the truck shortly before crashing from San Antonio Express News.

In the footage, the white truck swerves and drifts back and forth across the two-lanes of U.S. 83 in Uvalde County near Concan. Kuchler called emergency officials multiple times while following behind the truck, pleading and urging authorities to get the driver off the road.

Additionally, revoke this murderer's driver license for life.

Only if they take away every tank-sized SUV from every 4'-nuthin soccer mom who can't see over the GD steering wheel. Both equally as dangerous.

I just drove by the site of the old bus crash on my way back from Louisville.

I was too young to remember but isn't that guy out now? And doesn't he still live in Kentucky?

Driver sentenced to 55 years in prison in church bus crash.

Should have received 100 years.

I am from Hardin Co and my Mom knew some of the victims.

Yes, Larry Mahoney has been out of jail for a few years and still lives up there somewhere. I know someone tried to interview him this year (30 year anniversary) and he declined.

I drive a lot and have near misses all the time with drivers texting, I’ve watched semis swerve in and out of lanes texting. Oncoming cars entirely in my lane causing me to lock them up. If you have to communicate at least protect others from your dumbass and make a call, put it on speakerphone and watch the road. It’s still distracted but it is far better than texting.

Same with me. It’s scary driving and unfortunately I have to drive a lot. I’ve had more close calls in the last couple of years with people looking at their phone and not paying attention than I want to think about.
