I read an article yesterday that said he could become the most valuable out of all the freshman. Stretching? Perhaps, but if he continues to improve his shot....watch out.

I would post the article if I knew how. It was called..Cassius Stanley better than advertised

If he has a stable three point shot, he gives the team an unstoppable slasher to go along with Tre and Wendell. The 5 out begs for 3-4 guys to be capable slashers. It worked last season for a time until it became a two man show. With improved shooting and more abundant options to drive, the scheme will look world’s better. Cassius needs to be a big part of that.

I feel like he’s coming in very underrated. I think he will surprise a lot of people. And if he can shoot consistently average to good from 3 then i think he has the chance to be one of the top 2-3 players on the team

My gut tells me coach will not want to start 4 freshmen and a soph, at least early on. So I think we'll see Jack at the 3 and Cassius and Javin as our subs getting a lot of minutes. I think Goldwire will get minutes too. After that who knows. If Cassius can hit his shot consistently he'll get lots of minutes.

If he can hit shots consistently he will start IMO. He doesn't really have the maturity curve physically, he's ready. I read somewhere he has put on 20 pounds since the end of his senior year.

He’s also 20 years old. Physicality won’t be a learning curve for him.

I don’t think a lot of people have realized that he looks so good because he’s the age of a junior. He’s older than Tre. Im glad to have him but the kids rated only as a 4 star and he’s two years ahead of everyone. I don’t think he’ll be drafted as high as everyone thinks. Still kinda bummed we didn’t add another big to the roster

He’s a four star and older sure, but it’s partially because he switched schools a few times and he couldn’t shoot. He’s really worked to add the shooting skill, so we’ll see how it goes.

I don’t think he’ll be a 1st Team All-American or anything or even a lottery pick, but his age and rating won’t have any bearing on any of that at this point. It all boils down to can he shoot. It was the same story for Tre Duval. Cassius has him to use as a cautionary tale now.

Plus Cassius wasn’t the reason we didn’t get a big. Duke didn’t really vibe with the bigs in this class and it appears 2020 is about the same. There really aren’t that many multi-tool bigs coming out which is another reason. K doesn’t want any old plodder. He’s looking for something specific for the 5-out or 4-1.

Stanley looks like an excellent prospect. Being the age of a junior is a tremendous advantage. I'm sure that he has added muscle and strength in the off-season. I'm nitpicking, but adding 20 pounds of beneficial weight in four months sounds like hyperbole

That’s what like most, too. What this team lacks in traditional star power, they make up for in total tools that compliment each other.

In regards to star power or “lack of”, i think people are overlooking Vernon Carey and Wendell Moore. These guys are ready for college basketball and will make an impact from day one.

I don’t doubt they’ll be excellent. Not at all. They won’t draw the same attention Zion and RJ brought. Zion was mentioned twice on the Little League World Series broadcast today. That was the allusion I was making. That’s all.

I like your post. Vernon and Wendell are going to be awesome.

Oh I agree. I’ve never seen a player get the attention Zion did (rightfully so) at the college level. What he accomplished is unreal.

I'm just hoping all that athleticism translates to defense. If he's half as good as Tre, they will make it hard on opponents.

I think it will. His athleticism is far and away elite and it will absolutely aid his transition to the college game. With the spread floor, he can be a real nightmare on offense.

Defensively, he’s very talented. Good footwork and he’s active. He likes to play passing lanes to create steal opportunities for big plays too. He, Wendell and Tre will be nasty back there.

Cassius is in
The maturity factor here is the key. He's got that on the court. I really like him.

Well if you and hokie both like him, he's probably gonna be great. I know they'll be freshman bumps, but he is a dynamite athlete. I'm looking forward to seeing what this freshmen class can do. They're an intriguing bunch.

Can't shoot??? He made every single shot in that highlight reel!! :D

He sure does look quick, and I cannot wait to see him on the floor with Tre. I hope he can be a bulldog in pressure defense too!

Duke could throw in a lock down 5 of Tre, Goldwire, Moore, Stanley, and DeLaurier oh my

Against teams that will throw out those versatile lineups, like a Louisville, we could see that combo if 3 of those guys prove to be talented offensively. Moore, Stanley and Jones have to show an ability to score if BOTH Carey and Hurt are off the the floor.

Typically you only need 3 guys on the floor who are really good defenders. It’s rare you need 4-5 and you certainly don’t want to lose your own advantage on offense.
