Suddenly shaping up to be a really solid class. Not the barn burner we’d hoped for, but a necessary rebuilding block with some really nice pieces.

1. Coach CC is just killing it this offseason and bringing in very high quality players who seem like real fits.

2. I'm legitimately intrigued to see how this kid changes and impacts the NU NIL scene.

Class rankings are stupid and this one is volume and timing driven and should be taken with a grain of salt... but we have a top 10 recruiting class on all sites right now. This is a legit group!

Judging from the lack of response here ... I'm guessing this isn't a big TikTok crowd 😅😅😅😅🤣🤣🤣

Really hope Jake is a hit. Hard worker and obviously brings a large following. Never hurts to have 1.5 million new Cats fans either. Brings us to what .... 1.50001 million?

Being completely serious, just go on TikTok and search Jake West commitment ... and you'll see that Northwestern basketball got millions of hits in various content pieces. Just last night.

There's a fantastic 5 minute clip from Fox 29 news showing Jake with his parents too.

It's impossible to quantify what that means to the program. Or that his reasoning for attending is how we develop guards and improve their game for the next level, and the great coaches etc.

Of course, there will come a time in 12 months where the ability matters too ........ but what the last 2 years have meant to the program from Boo to Brooks to someone like a Jake West ...... it's incredible.

Jake’s quote after announcement from Zagsblog:
“I’m going to bring leadership and competitiveness from Day One. I’m gonna compete, not take any plays off and be a leader by being vocal and bringing energy. I’ll do whatever it takes to win.”

Osh, if I recall correctly, Bryant McIntosh was leading his recruitment. Pair that with Boo Buie, and you got two strong examples of underrecruited confident point guards that have thrived in Collins' program. Hoping West will continue that trend.

Northwestern: "I like how it is an academic school. Bryant McIntosh has been recruiting me. He is really cool. He has been talking to me a lot. We relate because we are both small white guards who have played at a high level."

Yes sir.

Guard U is not a bad reputation to be developing .... especially for the underrecruited, which there are more and more of. Besides, it certainly seems we'll only be in the Portal game to fill in gaps, not attract the Top 40-50. At least not yet.

So to have a reputation of developing guys and getting them to the next level ... is a really cool thing.

Not to mention our 1.5 million new fans of course.

Kid's moves are impressive. With a couple of seasons gaining strenght, I can envision not only a B1G player, but also a star.

The first name I thought of was Jason ‘White Chocolate’ Williams. Just seems like a very free-flowing and unique player for NU.

Put his basic mechanics on a 6-5 body and then you will have something smoking. Will see how his size and physicality translates to the Big Ten. More or less Braden Smith (plus 2-3 inches thank goodness) as a recruit.

Apparently Rivals doesn't rate 2 of the 4 commits.......
Rivals is a joke but I still love Lou V and the WildcatReport, especially when covering NU Recruits for hoops. Since they are committed to Northwestern, they will probably never get rated.

On the one hand, you got to respect Rivals for their integrity not winging a rating without actually evaluating the players, but on the other hand, you got to hate them for not giving a damn.

If he’s Braden Smith, that would be pretty fantastic. He’s got more of a BMac build, though, with much better hops. Hope he can be even close to the same type of player.

Braden Smith seen as contender for B1G POY by ESPN. Go figure
The hate on this board for Braden Smith is just bizarre. He is a really good player. Over-rated by the media, without a doubt. Better than Boo, no way, but this guy is not a scrub.

I don't hate him, I just think he's vastly overrated.

He has never impressed me. He is not particularly quick. It was Edey ball. Throw it into Edey and watch him score. No one on Purdue was particularly impressive last year except for Edey who was a beast,

I think the hate for Braden Smith stems from all the Purdue fans who seemed to think he was vastly superior to Boo. Smith became touted because he was a freshman who could survive on the court by passing the ball to Edey all night long without messing it up too much. That elevated him to stardom in his second season, though he's never really truly displayed true star playmaking ability. Yet, Purdue fans thought he was the best point guard in the league despite the guy balling out in Evanston.

I think you're right. I think Smith is good, but not any better or worse than most of the good point guards in this league. I guess we'll know soon enough just how good he is. If he truly becomes an Edey-less star, I will come here and admit it.

If I hated every player that’s fanbase overrated their own players, I would hate the whole conference.

While I understand your point, I think it was a little more intense and directed in the case of the Smith-Boo debate. Those of us at NU were debating how close Boo was in the running with Edey for best player in the conference (though I think most of us were unbiased enough to recognize Edey had the edge), but then to hear Purdue fans argue that not only was Edey better, but so was Smith put many people off, myself included. In the end, it's harmless fun.

I hated that Illinois fans felt that Shannon was better than Boo, but at least I could see the argument. My annoyance with Smith is it made no sense that anyone would think Smith was better than Boo.

Will Smith be like 1994 Scottie Pippen without Jordan, when Pippen was arguably the best non-big man in the NBA? Or is he just going to be an above-average point guard on an above-average team, no more, no less?

You need to work on your college basketball hate skills. Here are some pointers:

1. Fran McCaffery would stare down an old church lady who parked her car at a bad angle.
2. Brad Underwood smokes unfiltered cigarettes in front of 3rd graders
3. Michigan basketball fans meet up at fern bars for mating purposes
4. Matt Painter steals napkin dispensers from Mustard's
5. Indiana fans still write letters to Santa
