I saw on twitter that Grant Trinkle a UK baseball signee changed his mind & is going to a Juco. Any word on the reason? Prospect from Indiana. Had several accolades during his career. O course he was a pitcher as well.

Could be a senior is coming back & a numbers crunch?

I believe that they expanded the number this upcoming season so that sort of thing shouldn't happen. The 5th year seniors won't count against roster limits. May just be that he's trying to go pro more quickly but being a smaller frame probably needs to fill out more and with the draft being weird this year he may not want to go this year.

Probably would pitch and hit for us.

Huge loss, IMO. Another interesting note, his high school in Indiana had 3 of the top 23 players on the 2020 pre-season All America list for Indiana. One is headed to Indiana and the other is a 21 grad slated to go to Louisville.

Also, I'm not positive what our rankings were prior to losing him, but we're now 27th overall, 9th in the league. UL also down in 2020 ranked 21st.

However, Louisville makes up for that in 2021 ranked 4th while UK is in 41st, last in the league by a fairly wide margin.

Edit: we're 27th with him

Damn he was one of the better recruits.

His reasoning may be draft related? The five round draft is changing everything. For example: a high schooler could have been taken in the 32nd round and could sign for up to 100k, and if a team had budget leftover from their pool, much more. Him going Juco means he’s eligible for the ‘21 draft now when things should be the new normal (20-30 rounds) instead of going to UK where he’d have to wait three seasons to be eligible again.

Really hoping UK lands Hagenow. Draftees are only getting 100K max when they sign (no matter what pick/amount) and then getting 50% of the remaining money July ‘21 and second 50% remaining July ‘22.

Have to imagine Hagenow will get drafted high enough, but with 5 rounds who the hell knows. Can entirely change the strategy.

Also, my understanding is that every free agent will get a 20k signing bonus. So, that may be a tempting guarantee for some of our draft eligible guys who might not be able to play their way into the top 20 rounds in 2021. TJ for instance might not be able to do enough with his injury history.
