I am watching the basketball game on the TV and the baseball game on the internet at the same time. Let's hope they both win! Unfortunately the women's basketball team lost earlier today....

Another strong pitching outing for UK Justin Lewis is really making strides.

Run support has been huge also. 9-1 can make you pretty confident.

Wow, this team has shocked me this weekend. I don't think the most blue-tinted glasses could have imagined a sweep this weekend much less one where two of the 3 games were dominated by UK.

Don't want to give them a big inning in the 6th. Too much game left for that.

Texas A&M showing some fight. It would be really nice to get this last game especially since we had the big lead. Are we running out of pitching?

Great job by Salow to get the final out. Does he come back in the bottom of the ninth (I hope)?

Salow back but a tough order to face. Got the first out so Shewmake has only himself to hit in.

Got Shewmake with a swing and a miss for out 2. With a 4 run cushion, should be ok, right?

Called strike 3 to end the game! Wow! A sweep of a ranked SEC team on the road. Whatever you might think of some of Mingione's lineup decisions, he has the team playing well to pull this off.

What was going on with the coaching staffs after the game? Looked like some words were being exchanged. Maybe I misread the situation but they were talking and there were no glad handing going on.

There were some words exchanged earlier when we were trying to steal up 10. They may not have appreciated our concern about relief pitching being able to hold them.

UKs third base coach Roland Fanning got into it with an A&M assistant after Carson tried to bunt for a hit while UK was up 11-1. My guess is the Aggies took offense to that. They had to be separated and after the game, neither staff were real friendly towards each other.

It's like running the score up in football. Yeah, it's a d*ck move but it's the other teams responsibility to stop them.

AWESOME series win. Hats off to the team and coaching staff. Some of Ming's decisions are vexing, but love that he takes chances and plays aggressively. Also love his energy, seems to be transferring over to the team.

Very happy with the sweep, certainly unexpected. As far as the chippy part of the game, there are certain unwritten rules in baseball. One is trying to steal a base when up by a bunch, another is trying to bunt for a hit, when up by a bunch.
I do like the spunk UK showed, but there is a right way to do things, and being a gracious winner is one of them.

You are probably right about that, but I don't agree that those should be unwritten rules. This isn't like basketball or football where time runs out on you. As long as a team can avoid getting three outs, they can extend the game indefinitely until they catch up. There should never be a situation where a team backs off it's attempt to score runs and get runners on base. Like I said, you are probably right about that, but I would have a hard time doing that if I am trying to win a baseball game.

Comeback said it best. With the metal bats, no lead is ever safe. If its 11-1 in the ninth, then maybe I see where you don't do those things. But it was in the 7th against a pretty good club. You play until the final out.

One thing I will say. Texas A&M fans are some of the most entitled fans in the SEC. So the sweep is that much sweeter.

Ironic that the score was 11-1 when the dust up occured, the final was 11-7. The old saying ' Let sleeping dogs lie ' comes to mind. The Aggies were down, the crowd was down and leaving, and that got the Aggies and the crowd fired up.
I like the energy Coach Minge has brought to the program, and the bats are red hot, with pretty solid pitching. I just do not want us to get a reputation of being ' Hot dog ' bunch, that other SEC teams and fans get fired up for, like they do in Basketball. I would rather we fly under the radar for a while longer, but a sweep of a ranked team on the road probably won't let that happen !

The unspoken rules of baseball are not always easy to follow. This rule in particular is that you typically take your foot off the gas when the other team is basically beaten. However, it is hard to really gauge that. Some say it is when you're up 10. Well, that rule doesn't always really work for college baseball considering that college pitching can be very sketch at times and the bats often exacerbate that problem. Texas A&M, even after this weekend, is still hitting .299 as a team and has scored the 3rd most runs in the SEC. So, TAMU is dangerous in terms of being able to put up runs. So, I can understand UK still playing hard in the top of the 7th. I think that likely changes in the top of the 8th. I think if TAMU doesn't score in the 7th then UK becomes more gentlemanly and begins to back off.

Interesting that in SEC play there were 6 sweeps and just 1 series that split a game. We will get another test this weekend against Ole Miss. The Rebels struggle at the plate hitting only .249 as a team, but their ERA is second in the league at 2.73. Looks like it could be a great test for the Kentucky bats. If they continue to stay hot then it is definitely a series that they can win.

First of all, T A&M was not an overmatched team...they are capable of producing against the Cats...2nd, they didn't clear their bench to get guys offensive reps, they didn't throw the towel in...its on their coaching staff. If they wanted UK to get away from their aggressive ways, then A&M should've put in backups.

This wasn't UK vs north west Texas A&M south campus or some garbage with absolutely no chance of a comeback - #13 ranked team at home. Good for the staff. Whats the worst that will happen? A&M going to actually try to win a game next time?....they had a weekend to talk on the field

They were pretty over matched this weekend, not just A&M, but anyone who has in Biblical terms ' Given up the ghost ' and is down and out, does not need to be given a spark to ignite team morale. We will never know for sure, but had that dust up not happened, the score might very well have been 11-2, 11-3 at the end. But they did score 6 runs in the 7th and 8th, which equaled their total out put in the 1st 2 games.
Regardless, ready to move on to WKU tomorrow in Bowling Green, weather permitting.

I am all about classy play and the unwritten rules...but this wasn't like a high school powerhouse vs a Podunk Co school w/9 players...this was #13 team in country, at home, with starters still in and 9 outs to go.

maybe it sparked them...it probably showed UK players a little something about their coaches as well...going to do what we do no matter what.

Great sweep and if this is what we debate about this season, it could be a great season LOL

I think in part the TAMU coach was a bit miffed at Kentucky all weekend regardless of the score(s). I think he really didn't like that our kids stand in there and crowd the plate and often don't make a whole lot of effort to get out of the way of inside pitches. I think he considered this to be cheap and he was frustrated that we were doing it and that the umpires were "allowing it."

^ That stuff is annoying - but if his pitchers could hit a spot, it wouldn't matter so much. I remember one lefty of ours K'd up looking on a ball that almost hit him bc of his crowding...a right handed 2 seamer would've been deadly if they could execute.

Plus if UK has players willing to take that approach (I wouldn't be comfortable w/it as a player) then good for them - almost developing an identity that they have been missing...

I agree. I also don't think they thought in a million years that we could even win the series against them. They probably looked at UK as the "up-start" program. Mingione has said they will compete until the end and that seems to be what he is doing. Personally, after Henderson losing so many games we should have won....I am loving this!
