UK looks to wrap up a series victory with a win tonight at 7:00 pm. UK going with Chandler Shepherd, his 1st start since an arm laceration about 3 weeks ago. He needs to have his best stuff for the Cats to beat Auburn.

Down 2-0 in the bottom of the second, Storm Wilson got thrown out at the plate on a Reida ftheta right to end that inning.

Shepherd, who was not sharp at all in his first start back, was chased in the top of the third with no outs. Combs on in relief and the tigers extend their lead to 6-0 before UK can get out of the top of the third.

In the bottom of the third, UK gets it's leaflet man aboard for the second straight inning, and for the second straight time, they are not able to convert that to any runs.

Tom and Wilson lead off the 4th with back to back doubles to score a run, and Thomas singles to put runners on the corners and no outs. UK then goes foul pop up to catcher, infield fly, and K to leave them stranded. Very poor offensive execution to end that inning after a promising start.

4th unearned run extends Auburn lead to 8-1. Yet another SEC beat down. UK loses again tomorrow, and there's a damn good chance they don't even make Hoover.

This team is not going anywhere, been apparent for a while now. Bigger issue is . . . what will Mitch do at end of season? One NCAA appearance in six seasons is pretty poor, if you ask me.

If UK loses this series, and I think they may very well do that, then I don't see any way (other than an SEC tournament title) that we make the NCAA tournament. We will be punished for the bad losses and playing poorly down the stretch.

One NCAA appearance in six seasons is not good. That being said, I would highly doubt that any move is made after this season. If I recall correctly, Henderson's contract was extended after the good season they had in 2012, so that he would still have 2-3 years on his contract after this season. his teams have just been perplexing. They come out of the gates fast and can go toe to toe with most anybody, until the half way point or so. Then they collapse hard over the last half of the season. The late season slides are a clear pattern at this point. They've consistently pumped out solid numbers of draft picks, yet they can't seem to field a complete pitching staff and enough offensive firepower in the same season.

I really don't understand Henderson. He pinch hits for Thomas who hits .305 for Kyle Barrett (who probably hasn't gotten a hit in a month) who hits .262. Then he lets Reida, the worst hitter our team, hit. Then he also lets Shelby lead off the next inning. Meanwhile he has three guys on his bench that are hitting over .300, one of which is hitting above .500. Yet he leaves them on the bench and lets our two worst hitters hack away. Both of which got out. Just doesn't make any sense at all.

It isn't that perplexing I don't think. I think it has everything to do with Henderson's attitude. When he feels like he has nothing to lose the guys play loose and they have fun doing it. However, when it comes down the stretch and the team has to have wins Henderson tightens up and gets nervous. The guys take on that personality and they play tight. Then they end up losing.

I have heard a story about one game several years ago where Hendo got so nervous that he froze up and stopped calling pitches into the catcher. Nidiffer had to call the rest of the game on his own because Henderson wouldn't get off the bench and do anything. It is that attitude that leads to these guys struggling down the stretch.

However, I agree with you that Mitch will do nothing.

The 4th inning was a small replica of the season when UK gets back to back doubles and then Reida and Shelby, batting 8th & 9th in the lineup swing at the first pitch and both guys pop-up by swinging at bad pitches then Cousineau makes an out and a promising inning goes down the drain. Cousineau continues to swing away early in the count and has drawn 6 walks for the entire season. Definitely mis-cast as a lead-off man.
