I agree with you but unfortunately it will never happen. CBS’s prime time lineup on Tuesday/Wednesday/Saturday out does college basketball ratings wise. It would be financially stupid to sign away the SEC from ESPN.
And you couldn’t just sign basketball. ESPN has a deal with the SEC for all SEC sports and the platform to distribute it. Something CBS doesn’t have. That’s why ESPN is such a lucrative deal for the SEC schools. Football, basketball, basketball, gymnastics all air on an ESPN platform and that means revenue for all

No comparison. CBS is so much better than ESPN. The picture quality, the sound, the crowd noise seems louder, the announcers. Games are just more exciting on CBS.
I was just gonna say it seems like the crowds are louder during CBS games, there no stupid fluff or dumb 5 min cutaways where u can’t see the action on the court because they’re talking about the jimmy b fund for the 100th time

If Bama had won the game you’d be complaining about Raftery cheering them on.😬

No, I have never bitched about Raftery. I likebthe way he calls games

CBS is about money.

College basketball interest ramps up in February, after the Super Bowl, which is why the last month before the NCAA Tournament, they usually broadcast 3-4 games each weekend. They will almost always include Kentucky, Kansas or marquee Big Ten teams.

During the early part of college basketball season, unless they get a Kentucky/North Carolina, Kansas/Texas type game, they would much rather air college football and the NFL.

I cherish our CBS games. Best ones of the year!

Yesterday felt like an awesome game matchup in the 90s. Rupp was loud, announcers were into it (making relevant commentary and funny jokes), halftime commentary was relevant. Just great overall tone, atmosphere and presentation. 11/10

Keep in mind, they pick the better games, so could’ve part of why louder.
But I am happy to just be able to watch them all. When I was a teen I only got to watch maybe 1/3 of the games.

The banter yesterday was so good.

The Grady *** shot. “To Grady,,,,he doesn’t see it! Now he does!”

I hate when commentators talk about ice cream and other sports too much. Focus on the game. Get into the game.

Personally speaking, CBS college basketball AND football coverage seems much more advanced than ABC/ESPN or Fox. Sharper picture. Good commentators. Just better overall production by CBS Sports.

On the other hand, except for 60 Minutes, remainder of "See BS" leaves something to be desired.

Watching games on CBS is soooooo much better than ESPN. Mainly they just talk about the game. I wished the SEC would ditch ESPN for CBS
Hate it when our games are on ESPN but then again I mostly turn the TV guys off and listen to the UK announcers after I have delayed my TV to get in sync with the radio

They also showed the lights off briefly and ESPN rarely or ever shows the pregame or breaks. Of course ESPN often cuts to our games 5 to 7 minutes already played.
Isn't it a conspiracy? I mean, UK gets the late game and you miss half the first half or more before they leave the other game to get to it. Been a TV staple for years you could count on.

NEVER count seeing the start on a 8pm game on ESPN. The 6 oclock slot always runs late. Especially when you got Pat Adams consulting the monitor like a Ouija board!

The only thing I really like about ESPN coverage is to hear Jay Bilas berate the hell out the current state of game officiating. Can never get enough of that.

That reminds me .... maybe I should make that annual late season thread about "how college basketball officiating sucks, 2022 version."

It's already been an epic disaster for officiating this year. EVERYWHERE.

I usually just keep the volume down. I wish I could watch with Tom Leach’s commentary on tv.

My only complaint on CBS is some of the absurd camera angles. I hate when they show free throw shots from a camera on the floor looking up at the basket. Also hate when they show the action just straight ahead looking past the players; much rather prefer the typical side camera where you can see what's going on much better. Fortunately, they don't show those bad camera views for very long.

I’m not religious but I say a prayer every night that Disney/ESPN never get their hands on the Tournament. But I have this dreadful feeling they will eventually and we will all die a little inside.

I believe he works for Fox now, so that would exclude him from calling tournament games which is a shame. He's very good.

Rafferty has that indie contract that allows him to work both Fox and CBS. Which is good for the game.

Gus I think left CBS pissed because he knew he was never going to get the big boy chair for football or the tourney away from that hack Jim Nance.

The 3:30 Saturday afternoon CBS/SEC football game has the best theme music in the history of humanity.
Nothing comes close.
And fortunately, I have that theme song downloaded on to two hard drives and copied to no less than 3 CDs.

For real? We won’t have SEC on CBS anymore? I love when UK plays on CBS, especially in football.
Through 2023. Very sad. Hopefully CBS doesn’t sell them to Disney. Would like to enjoy the last two seasons. I don’t believe CBS will sell us out though, think they’ll honor the contract.

CBS got the bang for their buck ($55,000,000 per year) but the SEC did also, very much so. They offered $300,000,000 a year to extend but Birmingham office folks rode the short bus when they were younger and went with Disney.

So after 2023, CBS will for sure not air SEC games or they have a chance to renew the contract?

Correct, SEC on CBS going the way of the dinosaur. 2024 season will all exclusively be on ESPN/ABC. Don’t know for sure on basketball but I’m pretty sure besides CBS Sports Classic, we won’t have any basketball games either on CBS.

They declined to renew it, if I remember it right. ESPN/ABC is officially taking it over. CBS is rumored to be interested in picking up Big Ten football to keep a college football presence.

They did offer but weren’t going to get in a bidding war.

There is the Home Depot Mountain West on CBS right now. Praying to God the Big Ten doesn’t get a CBS deal. Can you imagine that theme song for those sub-par teams? What a joke.

CBS is making a mistake for sure. It kind of reminds me of when they lost the NFL to Fox in 1993.

I did find this article that says the other agreements in place now for sports such as basketball is separate and will continue until 2034. I am assuming that means CBS may still have SEC basketball games for their regular season package. I could be wrong though.
