The national title game next year is 1/25. Just a hair shy of 2 months following the completion of the regular season.

I don't see any reason why they can't speed up the calendar. Conference championships were on 12/6. That means you could have the CFP on 12/13, 12/20, 12/27 and the title game on 1/3, a Saturday which makes all the sense in the world.

Instead, for some retarded reason, conference championship games were on 12/6, the first round of the CFP wasn't until 12/19-20, the second round took another nearly 2 weeks on 12/31-1/1 then another week for the semis and then, for some reason 10 more days until the title game.

I looked at the calendar and it would make sense to move the season start up a week.

Week one - August 29
Week thirteen - November 21
Conference championships - November 28
CFP Round One - December 5
Quarterfinals - December 12
Semifinals - December 19
Championship - January 1

You could also have a week off between the end of the season and CFP, and go with a more (recently) traditional championship date:

CFP Round One - December 12
Quarterfinals - December 19
Semifinals - January 1
Championship - January 11

Something like my first proposal would really clean the calendar up. Then the portal could open January 2 and allow some breathing room between meaningful games and roster building.

Makes sense also.

It's almost like the powers that be looked all the available options and said "no, no, we need to do something that makes no sense whatsoever."

Shoot, at this point, why not push the title game to Super Bowl weekend. Make it the warm-up act on Saturday for the SB on Sunday.

I enjoyed the game last night, but I feel like it loses a lot of luster with so much time going by. The further past NYD, the less it feels like college football.

I'll be interested to see the TV ratings. I know the ratings declined for the semifinals from the quarterfinals.
