I' was just thinking about where my confidence stands on our guys chances at bringing home gold. This is where I currently have it.

Tier 1

Mesenbrink - Yes, he is on a tier of his own. Nothing is 100%, especially in wrestling, but, I'd be in absolute shock if someone beat him.

Tier 2

Barr - I have him slightly above Levi right now. I fully expect both to get it done.
Haines - See above. I definitely like his chances.

Tier 3

Lilledahl - I have him slightly above Shayne, as I think he is wrestling more consistently. There are some tough guys to contend with, but, I like our guy.
Van Ness - Shayne definitely puts himself in some danger at times, but, he almost always works through it. That danger puts him slightly below Luke.

Tier 4

Welsh - Rocco is looking better and better. Angelo, Sinclair & McEnelly definitely pose threats, but, I like how our guy is trending

Tier 5

Duke - Despite the loss to Taylor, I still have P.J. slightly above Marcus. Both weights are tough, but, 133 is one of the toughest I've ever seen.
Blaze - He is as impressive of a true Freshman as I've ever seen, but, damn, this is going to be fun!!!!

Tier 6

Mirasola - I'm not expecting a championship, but, I think he gets on the podium. I have him above Davis, as Mendez is on another level.
Davis - I think Braeden is capable of beating anyone not named Mendez if he gets himself in good condition.

Realistically I think 6 is more likely, but 8 not out of the question.
Imagine next year with 4,5,6,7 returning champs and needing to replace one spot (Levi). One spot available in the lineup, likely replaced with some sort of world age champ. With other world age champs replacing others who are shirting or injured. mind blowing

So you are predicting only 8 national champs? Why sell yourself so short?

By my calculations we will have about 4.55 champs this year. I am decidedly more bullish on Marcus than most. Even with the challengers I think he’s as likely to win it as Luke or Shayne even with the field he faces.

I agree that he’s better than everybody in his weight class by a greater margin than Luke or Marcus. But Shayne’s propensity for sloppy first periods is hard to ignore and getting behind in the tournament could lead to a loss in a match where he is clearly superior with the wrong or questionable refereeing.

He’s been tied in the 3rd period this year against two kids that shouldn’t even be ranked in the top 10. That makes him vulnerable.

Davis and “in condition” I would not considering the last match an indicator of his condition. He went out at a Mesenbrink pace and to no surprise to anyone, he ran out of gas. There are very few people (Taylor, Metcalf) that can do that and it’s learned over a career.

Good news, he can reach Hardy’s legs. Just doesn’t have to do it at 100mph. Davis is conditioned ok imo.

people on this board cite the fun and the trying things all the time. SVN fits that profile imo. Thus, sloppy or not, maybe he is simply trying some stuff. Especially since he knows he can overcome any mistake.

Given the circumstance that brought him to 141 after the shirt, I expect that excellent conditioning would still be a goal. He’s getting there but hasn’t arrived as of yet. He’ll get there soon!

I believe he is still catching up with his conditioning. Last week he was put through conditioning hell and not being the first time he has gone through that he thought if he could race out to a lead he could maneuver through the gassed part.

The next time they wrestle Davis will be better conditioned and much more rested.

Considering Nagao's history of injuries, does anyone know if the coaches had informed Braeden before the start of the season to be disciplined with his weight and conditioning in case they had to pull his Redshirt? Some posters on here stated that Braeden had let his weight get pretty high, which would obviously affect his conditioning.
