First of all, I am giving Stoops 5 years. He's done everything right other than win but you can see the flashes and because of that, I am going to be a little more lenient on him. I do think Gran will be able to help him out along the way when it comes to managing the game. Last night was Gran's first game so I am reluctantly giving that a pass. However, we do need to do something about the defense.
Obviously our D line is the glaring weakness, but in 4 years, DJ Elliot has shown me not one thing that leads me to think he can run an even decent defense. I know he is Stoops' guy, but sometimes you have to make changes that make you feel selfish.
Would it be that bad if we canned Elliot and let stoops focus on the D for the remainder of the year?
Also, if things don't go well in Austin, would there be any way that we could lure Charlie Strong in as the DC? If he does well here, we start winning and he gets another job, that is fine. We would then just have to go find a proven DC which would be much easier following a little success. Even though I hate these silent promises/Head coach in waiting stuff, I wouldn't be opposed to saying that he could be in line for the job should Stoops not get it done here.
