Collins and crew will now go all in on recruiting for 2018. New arena. New practice facility. A two month infomercial on the team and program raising the national profile to unprecedented levels....

Let's see what he does with it ...

A two month infomercial, yes - plus every basketball fan in the country seeing that we had the mighty Gonzaga reeling and on the ropes ready to go down the for the count until the refs gave them a lifeline.

I can't tell you how many people have said something to me last night and again this morning already about how we got screwed by the refs and how we'd have won that game if not for the refs. Of course, it doesn't hurt that I'm wearing an NU hat...

Was watching the game on TV with friends (Illini alums). They were cheering on The Cats with me. The infraction was immediately obvious. Hence the outburst by CC. On TV two officials went to review but nothing came of it. Which is sad is that with the time available in the game. If the officials get it right. Both teams can still overcome it and play the game out. The play should dictate the outcome not the officiating. It was apparent to me Gonzaga was pressing I am not saying they would have loss. My opinion is the situation was definitely a momentum swing that Gonzaga sorely needed at the time.

It was well known that the Gonzaga players tire easily so it was not completely unexpected that we would do better in the second half. At the time of the non call it looked like we were playing with a lot more energy so the break the Zags got consequent from the free throws was a real gift to them as well. If I recall correctly they were down to two, if not one time outs at that point.

P.S. Auto spell hates Gonzaga. First it came out Gondola, then Gonzoga.

It crossed my mind as well that losing like that could create as much buzz over the course of the year as winning this game. Of course it would be better to win and win some more.

The more we all wear purple, the more times people will be prompted to remember this season. It is what we can do.

Losing controversially in a close fought game may be best thing -- from a recruiting perspective -- that could have happened.

The great story continues.

The Underwood hiring is instructive to any AD with an up-and-coming coach ... not that Phillips needs instruction. I hope he gets a verbal agreement on an extension this week.

Actually, Gonzaga has been known as a second-half team since they spread minutes among 8 guys and wear you down. Look at their minute chart compared to ours. If they were more tired than us, I would be shocked.

Yeah, if we had overcome a 22 point deficit and a complete whack job by the refs, we would have gotten a ton more value out of it. Not to mention whatever further heroics and emotional rides were to come in the Sweet Sixteen, Round of Eight and the Final Four.

No, beating the #1 seed after a 22 point deficit when the CBS analysts at halftime were saying the game was effectively over, and especially despite the blown call by the refs - that would have been worth a lot more. Nevermind what might have been with the Sweet 16, the Elite Eight and the Final Four.
