I put forward Chris Klieman as a head coaching candidate. He is the head coach for the North Dakota State Jackrabbits who beat Iowa last week. They have also won 3 strait national championships under his care and have a record of 31-3. He has DB background and was a defensive coordinator for the Jackrabbits before taking over as the head coach.

What I am thinking, we cannot take a chance with another coordinator, we need someone who has proven head coaching experience. With jobs like LSU, Auburn, Oklahoma, etc possibly becoming open we are not going to have a shot at a guy like Tressel if he is interested in returning to coaching at all. We aren't going to touch Briles if we didn't want Petrino. I do not think we will have any shot at Jeff Brohm. He has been right in the vicinity of our program for too long. He will see it as a dead end job.

We need to go outside the box and grab a successful head coach from an even smaller school. Someone who has developed players, who will think our facilities are fantastic, and who has had to go out and scout the non-top flight talent. Maybe there is a coach like this in Florida or Georgia who has some connections with schools down South, but if not why not take a chance on someone who is already winning at a place like North Dakota State.

Great idea!

What are the similarities between Hal and Klieman?

NDSU isn't gimmicky and actually has a defense. Iowa rushed for 34 yards... While NDSU ran for over 200.

My only question is can the guy recruit well enough for the SEC?

Jeff Brohm would take the UK job, but this guy definitely sounds like he needs to be given a serious look.

What kind of offense does he like to run? Please don't tell me he is like Stoops.

Is Jimmy Carter still alive? He is about the only one I havent' seen a thread about yet. He could sell peanuts to the occasional fan at halftime, which would fit in nicely with the way mitch ran the football program before the strike.

The point being why another thread about some coach, UK has a coach.

For all I know, had Mumme not been caught with hand in cookie jar (which was not his own direct doing, as far as I know), he might still be here now. Anyway, Ohio St. once made a similar move to the one OP is presenting. Got a guy named Tressel.

Sounds like this guy can coach for sure. Just a small point, he has won two National Championships - not 3. He has a coach at NDSU since 2011. Before that his lone coaching stop as a head coach he had losing records. He inherited a strong program, but was a part of the program for 3 years before being named head coach - very impressive.

My main concern would he be able to recruit here - which is/has always been a problem. However, before the Kentucky legislature got involved and caused a Coach named Bear Bryant to leave, UK recruited the fertile fields of the eastern part of the mid-west. Actually similar to what Stoops is doing now - of course Bear Bryant was a little better coach than Stoops appears to be.

North Dakota would be considered outside of the UK recruiting area, so it would come down to who the assistants were from that he brought with him and their contacts in this area.

But again, this is all predicated on Stoops not turning it around. Makes for something to discuss after the season's hopes seem to have been blown early - but maybe not??????

They play a lot like Stanford does, or old school 90's Nebraska teams. They grab every kid with size and athleticism near them. They coach them up and then ram them right down your throat. Hard nosed defense, lot's of running, and big plays out of play action. They feel like they have seen this method work at Kansas State, Nebraska, Iowa, and Boise State, so why not make it work at North Dakota State. I have felt for years if you can build quality football teams from kids in Nebraska, Kansas, Iowa, and Idaho, then you can sure as heck do it in Kentucky. We shouldn't even have any competition for kids in Southern Indiana and all of Kentucky outside of Louisville. That's a lot of kids to get 20-25 big athletic kids from every year. Right now WKU has better kids from Kentucky than we do. Our coaches are getting Rivals talent, but I am not sure they are getting Real talent and they sure as heck aren't developing anyone. Think about all the kids Rich Brooks took out of our state and developed into players. They are still here we just aren't getting them.
