I remember seeing his height around 6-4/6-5. He might be still growing I guess. If he is a beast, get him on DL, that side of the ball is going to need as many options as possible. Feel better about the offensive side than the defense right now.

Austin and Frost must feel pretty good about our situation at OT to move him over to D.
If I've read this right, they think his frame develops better as a Dlinemen as opposed to being on the OL. Duval touched on this in his 1620 chat with Sharpe and Benning. On Chris: “He cannot hold the mass you’re talking about on the O-line unless we start giving him massive amounts of fat allowance. Fat doesn’t speed you up and it’s harder to slow down, right? It’s not an engine, it’s just adding mass to the car, which your engine has to work harder to move,” Duval said. “That’s Chris in a nutshell.”

Was an interesting interview and made sense of a lot of things. He sounds like he knows his stuff well..

Selfishly, if I were him, would want to work toward a career as NFL OT.

Don't see a lot of 6'8 DE but I wish him the best. Tough to play low enough at that height.

Translation...we need him at DE.

One thing I never trust is ANY staff developing a full roster.

Same thing happened to Steinkuhler. Baker was a natural OT in a NFL system.

If I remember correctly that was all Baker's decision.

Based on bad advice, on a team with a crappy DL.

Here's the thing about being a CFB "team guy." You get pushed into roles that may not be the best fit for your skill set. We'll see, I hope for the best, but this kid is long and tall with descent strength. He looks like a prototypical NFL OT to me. And I don't have to agree with Duval or HCSF to say it, so spare me the "I'll trust this staff's opinion over your's" posts that will inevitably follow.

I do see a roster without a lot of young 3-4 DEs, that's for sure.

I guess I never saw Steinkuhler as this cant-miss OT prospect, and I saw him play a ton there in high school. I know it’s an extremely popular narrative on this board, but it’s no automatic IMO. Was he really a better prospect/athlete than Lydon Murtha?

If nfl OT are 6 7 and de are 6 3, the de have to be 2 steps quicker with strength. A de that's 6 8 can get serious edge rush with being a little quicker than the ot. 6 8 de weakness is against the run.

In high school he was 6'6" so I doubt he's 6'8" now but I guess its possible but most guys don't grow 2 inches after high school unless they were slow developers which he wasn't

For the most part I agree with you, but also consider that with the 1-gap 3-4 that Chinander runs, and often times having 4 on the line, his length could be of benefit to he and the defense.

If he truly can't hold the weight and his body will only comfortably hold in the 285 range. You don't see a lot of NFL tackles at that height and under 310 or 320.

I'm all for our program exploiting the use of their players to best suit the needs of the team. We're just a ways away from having the luxury of worrying about a guy's NFL positioning. We need to win. And... the kid WANTS to play defense.

TO never had to go there.

I disagree. But I get it.

Duval's evaluation was that the kid did not have a suitable frame to develop optimally for the Oline. Kid wants to play D. Frost said he could play on either side. So D it is.

Since when did Duval get the power to tell a kid what position he should play?

Great NFL OT develop massive lower body and junk in the trunk. Extra weight is an anchor. Period

I've been saying it for some time. We HAVE to build OTs instead of just trying to recruit the college ready guys. Other college teams make a living out of building OTs from high school TEs and DEs. We should be trying to do the same IMO. IF he wants to make a whole bunch of money some day, he should try to make himself in to a left tackle.

Frost needs a certain type of OT. Walker may or may not be that type/fit, or we may have guys that fit that mold, ALREADY ON THE ROSTER.

College OT not = NFL OT.

What I am saying, is Walker might have been a better fit as a NFL OT in a whole different system. But I then digress, and get in risk of being banned.

Hopefully, my Frost love before Riley at least gives me some street cred
