Many will make the case that Dunkirk was the turning point of WWII. Great Britain managed to rescue around 300,000 troops, which meant that they still had an army. Had they lost the outcome would have been very different. What's impressive is that the British commandeered every vessel available and managed to perform the rescue under constant threat from air attacks by the Germans.
