Moreno's about to face off against the Boozer twins at 7:15. Streaming for free on NBA.com if anyone is interested.

Right now Acuff and IMG playing the game before. That kid has some of the worst body language I've seen in a high end 5* in a bit.

We really need an NBA sub-forum, lol.

Moreno will probably have a tough time of it tonight. The big Boozer kid has a lot more help on his team .

He’s the perfect recruit for Cal. Gonna get his money and all the PT he can get before he leaves for the league.

Halftime. Great Crossing doesn't have the horses to compete. Miami Columbus has like 5 P5 kids. Moreno looked good so far. Clearly not the athlete that Cameron Boozer is (not many are) but is making contested finishes, blocked a couple shots (one directly on Cam Boozer on a 1x1 matchup drive). Moreno has caught some tough passes and finished through contact. Isn't a black hole on offense - has found the open shooter on swing passes out of the post multiple times too. Brought the ball up the court and initiated offense 1X - looked better than Amari Williams doing it lol. Even took a 3 that didn't go in. Form looked decent.

Pope is not Cal. Give CMP a chance before blasting him...
They are talking about the Arkansas recruit Darius Acuff. He's a selfish prick on the court. I go back to the Chipotle Nationals Event where Paul Biancardi said the talked with the IMG HC and guy just blasted Acuff--then in the game I was watching--his teammates wouldn't pass him the ball after rebounds because he was a complete D-head.

There's rumors a lot of top tier talent didn't want to play with him in College too. So far that's holding up.

Great Crossing is completely overmatched. Hard to evaluate Moreno in this type of game. But he has not been a strong enough force to make much of a difference. His team really is not getting him enough looks.

It seems quite fortuitous that we hire a coach who has a style built around big men who can pass and one of the best recruits out of this state in years is a big man who can pass quite well.

Seems like his secondary goal whenever I've seen him play is to make sure everyone knows nothing is his fault. Constantly holding his hands out at teammates and yelling at them to show everyone in the crowd that whatever turnover/dumb foul/bad shot that took place wasn't to his approval and it's his job to scold them. Complaining to refs and yelling at coaches when walking to bench. Not someone I'd want to play with.

Yep. And even Jasper Johnson seems to fit pretty well to the specific way Pope wants to play. Both of these kids grew up within 15 minutes of Rupp and are easily the best recruits out of Lexington area in probably 20+ years. Both coming during Pope's first true recruiting class. Pretty wild

Malachi needs more of an alpha mentality. He has guys on his team walking the ball across the half-court line only to jack up a 30 footer without passing the ball.

If this is the best team in the state, basketball is in bad shape in KY.

Lol...so if a public high school in the 26th largest state in the country gets their a$$ handed to them by a private prep school from Miami this is some sort of indictment on basketball in the state?

How about the fact they were even invited to play?

They are ranked the either 1st or second in the state and looked like a middle school team playing a high school team. So, yes it is a statement on KY basketball.

Tell me if I'm wrong but Columbus are #1 in the country, are they not?

I have no clue, didn't watch the game but assuming GC would have lost by 35-40 at minimum.

This is a prep school man...the best players in the country go to prep schools. KY is a small state with small funding. Hell, my alma mater sent no one to D1 and nearly won state last year.

If Rose Hill Academy would have continued to stand up maybe we'd have a chance but this is not and apples to apples comparison. These are all star teams being built in these prep schools.

Moreno could have left. Reed could have left. Perry could have left. Honestly, HS basketball is doing great in the state right now. No shame in losing to #1 team in country by a large margin, even if they made them look like a middle school team. They probably have 3-5 NBA guys on their roster....to go with unlimited resources.

Have to agree with this. And that team looked to have at least a full starting lineup of D1 talent, and some definite future NBA players.

How did Malachi do? What did he finish with?

Game got ugly but just so everyone realizes, GC played a team that will compete against the Montverdes of the world. Here's what they were up against -

Sr. F Cameron Boozer 6-9 / a few people think he's the best high schooler in the country
Sr. G Cayden Boozer 6-4 / 5* Duke Commit
Jr. F Caleb Gaskins 6-8 / 5*
Jr. Wing Jaxon Richardson 6-6 / 4* Top 35 / son of Jason Richardson
Jr. Wing Keeper Jackson 6-6 / multiple power 5 offers
Sr. G Bryce Fitzgerald 6-2 / 4* for football - committed to the U
Jr. F Cello Jackson 6-4 / multiple P5 offers, elite athlete

It's essentially a prep roster - multiple transfers. Just have to keep it in context and not use it as an indictment on Moreno or GC.

Great Crossing is currently 33 in the rankings nationally but was 10th prior to getting beat by Newport. As a KY native, I was just expecting more. It is sad that we were not playing a smarter game. They were not playing through their best player(Malachi). They played undisciplined, uninspired. Lots of runouts and poor defense.

I get that Columbus is a prep school that recruits. They are ridiculously talented. Just hate that GC got embarrassed.

I will say that there have been teams from Kentucky that would have put up a better fight, and most of them didn't have a player as good as Moreno.

Watched the 2nd best team in the state, St. X at the king of the bluegrass tournament. They aren't very good either. They have a couple of decent players, but team wise Kentucky high school basketball isn't very good

I do remember the couple of times that Reed competed against 5 star high school guys he always showed up and more than held his own. But then maybe he was just super special.

We will likely have Garrison and based upon the observations on this game we will probably need a big man portal transfer of talent. Relying on Freshman who aren't the very very elite has been a poor outcome in their one and done year.

You may be right..but you’d have to imagine the plan was Garrison be prepared to be a top player on roster and Malachi garner 12 minutes for depth and experience

A lot riding in garrison taking steps on defense and developing some semblance of post moves for this happen

As a guard, Reed was able to impact the game a bit more. If the guys couldn’t get the ball to him, it’s hard to do much. Also, they had significantly less talent at every other spot on the floor. Not sure there is a great way to compare that.
