Clear grounds to fire Jurich

Terry Meiners put this on his blog last night

http://www.heyterry.com/blog/

"There is a real possibility that Rick Pitino and Tom Jurich will both step aside on Wednesday or by the end of the week. Jurich has been at odds with interim President Greg Postel since his appointment last winter after Dr. Neville Pinto bolted for squeaky clean Cincinnati.

In July, Dr. Postel presented Mr. Jurich with a list of tasks. Point #1 was to fire Rick Pitino over the stripper scandal that led to a program beatdown from the NCAA.

Jurich refused Postel’s directive.

Meeting at Vincenzo’s restaurant just prior to Postel’s announcement that the school had reached a new lease agreement with the KFC Yum Center, Jurich was stiff armed from participating in the negotiation. Postel had tightened his grip on a seemingly autonomous athletics program.

Today’s confirmation of Louisville’s involvement in the FBI sting came from Postel, not the athletics department."

To me, this is very clear grounds to terminate Jurich. If you document that Jurich was ordered to fire Pitino and Jurich refuses, and then pitino goes and gets in another huge scandal, then it becomes very clear Jurich has to be fired with Pitino

I didn't know that the school president directed him to fire Pitino and he didn't. Jurich is gone for sure now. I thought he was gone anyway because Jurich created the environment for all of these scandals to happen. Whether Jurich knew or not is irrelevant because he was clearly an enabler.

Rick Pitino’s attorney Steve Pence promises that UofL “won’t fire Pitino without a bare knuckle fight.” Pence predicts that Pitino would prevail in a legal struggle over his reported $44 million buyout.

Wut...

Anyone involved with UofL basketball including Jurich is most certainly gone. UofL will do all they can to avoid the death penalty which at this point they assuredly deserve. If they do a complete house cleaning they will not get the death penalty IMO but they could see at least a 2-3 year post season ban and scholarship restrictions over the next 3-5 years. UofL has to be hit hard for this, wrist slapping time has come and gone.

Don't they put clauses in contracts to void the buyout under certain circumstances?

You know, like buying players and getiing your program destroyed.

I think it has to go through the NCAA channels and it has to be said by them that Pitino did something. The way the NCAA works it could be at least a year till they rule on something. Heck, they still don't have strippergate resolved completely.

If Senor Ramsey was still there, it would not be a problem for the athletic dept mafia bosses. However, with the new president, they will probably be canned.

I'll just say it's hard to get rid of people with this dirt on the university. You know Tom has it all because he's been doing it.

Postel already asked Jurich to fire Pitino, according to Terry Meiners. You don't think Postel is going to for sure fire him now?

Come on Man!

I heard from a reliable source, that Pitino was notified yesterday he is being canned and went ballistic, that's why press release was pushed back, and you heard Pitino's lawyer start talking, basically threatening UofL if they fire him

I sure hope no one is fired. Their program is screwed regardless but it will be way worse with Pitino and Jurich still around. Who would have ever thought Bobby Petrino would look like a classy guy in any athletics program?

You mean like a "morality clause"? This is Louisville, remember? Nothing about them implies morality in any form.

I've never seen an AD be able to keep a job like this sleazebag, Hiring Petrino back after what he did, Keeping Pitino after what he has been involved in multiple times. Is it really worth what's happening now to win, without regards to morals and honesty. Jurich has to be just like shady agents and shoe executives who run AAU organizations, the guy even looks the part. If UL wants to change the culture of it's athletic programs, Jurich and Pitino need to be fired immediately, then the healing starts.

Steve Pence is just posturing. No way he and Rick can win a suit over his buyout. The NCAA has already ruled that there was a lack of institutional control, and that Rick should have known. That is why he is being suspended. UL knows they have him. He's gone.
