I looked it up, so far in 2018, Kentucky has won SEVEN one run games this season, including FIVE of our ten SEC wins. That is some pretty fine coaching with a limited pitching staff, if you ask me.

But no wonder we are chewing our finger nails every single game.

Yes, that should be a confidence builder going forward, because now more than ever, every game is Big !

At least we seem to be winning the close ones. This does lead to some Maalox moments ! :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Same pitching coach as we had last year when we were two wins away from the CWS. Same pitching coach that led Maryland's staff to top of the Big 10. He hasn't forgotten how to build a staff. Sometimes circumstances get in the way. It's easy to blame the coach. UK could do a lot worse than Jim Belanger.

We have certainly had a rough go of it this year. Coleman, Thompson, and Haake all injured at one point. Plus, a lot of our redshirt players were or are injured. That's a lot of obstacles and it's not nationally talked about very much. Still, the pitching this year has left a lot to be desired. No consistency from most the pitchers, too many grooved pitches, no put away pitches. Ideally this year is an anomaly, but it is concerning, especially considering that no newcomers have really stepped up to prove that they can take on the roles left by Lewis and Hjelle.

We can rely on Z Thompson next season, and hope that Maryland transfer Andrew Miller, and Super prospect Ben Jordan, to go with D Harper, C Coleman, J Ramsey, M Hazelwood, A McGeorge, Z Haake, most likely, T Lockhart etc. are much improved. I am sure I am omitting another pitcher or 2, but this is the hand we will play cards with !

Losing Thompson was huge!!! I still think he is easily the best we have.

Disagree, think Lewis is the one with the most upside, and for the most part has pitched well, but lack of consistency has hurt ALL of our pitchers, they are like a box of chocolates, you just don't know what you are going to get . . .

Thompson has the best arm and pro potential of the 3 starters - but the other 2 are better pitchers overall at this time. JMO

ZT projected #1 for 2019 ... Much better control, speed and location. Don't get me wrong I love JL just think ZT is better
