Just a heads up.... do not.

Literally smells and tastes like death.
You'd think we'd be able to get a solid batch of single barrel or bottled in bond from Buffalo Trace, Woodford, Wild Turkey, or any of the other bigger names in the area.

Dunno why they went artisanal with it since a lot of people will happily pay a slight upcharge for their usual if it means donating to NIL. Not a lot will buy bad froo froo bourbon if just a small portion goes to the team.

That's disappointing to hear. I still might get a bottle, but make it a mixer-only situation. Is there any redeeming it? Coke, maybe?

I'm sure a good coke will mask it a bit... but I swear it's the worst Bourbon I've tasted straight.

Like licking the inside of a coffin I bet.

Another posted actually warned me about this as well.

Does anyone know who makes it? I would imagine it is just another whiskey with Club Blue label.
Club Blue partnered with Bespoken Spirits out of Lexington. Highly rated, supposedly, but they are known for craftier bourbons... At least from what I can tell.

Well... Thanks for the heads up. I'll have to get a bottle and experiment, now.

Is it just overpoweringly oaky? Smoky?

I had the $40 version. Maybe the $100 version is better....

ABV 45% 90 PROOF

"Begins from a Kentucky high-rye barrel-aged bourbon whiskey which is then specially finished with twice toasted oak staves for richness and flavor. The result is a spirit ripe with notes of cherry vanilla, white truffle, kettle corn, mocha and spice."

Overpowering for sure... couldn't really identify the ingredients. Together it just didn't mix very well and tasted like something I'd never get again... just very disappointing.

I do like the Kentucky Light Beer so if I want to support NIL I'll go the route moving forward.

Light beer + overpowering bourbon = mellow boilermaker cocktail.

Thanks for the heads up on the beer. Definitely gonna get some of that this summer.

I would say get a bottle and try it for yourself. I got a couple bottles of the $40 one and had very low expectations but I found it to be surprisingly good. I even had some bourbon snobs at my house around Christmas who saw the bottle and asked what it was. I kind of sheepishly told them it was NIL bourbon and they tried it and said it was good. And these are people who would tell you it’s nasty **** in your own house at Christmas time if they didn’t like it.

I have not repurchased but I probably will. Maybe I can get one of those coffin flavored ones.

Interesting. Not going to discount your experience but curious if there are others who've tasted the whiskey.

Both me and my wife was a hard "never again."

I bought both bottles.

Never had an intention to open either.

It’s like the Maker’s collection bottles to me. Never intend to open.

They could put water in them and I would never know.

The move was so clearly to partner with any of the Iconic distillers in our great state.

Makers does a ton of different wood finishing options. 46 goes for like 35-40$. Do something similar, mass produce it, dip it in blue wax, sell it for 50$ a pop.

Buffalo Trace? How about a bottle of Big Blue Trace. I get that they already have so many products and figuring out which juice to use could have been tricky. You'd like to use the 90 proof for this sort of thing, and heir flagship bottle is aleady 90 proof.

Woodford Reserve? How about Woodford Wildcat Reserve?

Wild Turkey? How about Wildcat Turkey? OK, probably too far.

I doubt they put much effort into the quality of the bourbon.

They probably figured they wouldn’t be opened.

Maybe they aren’t collector items anyway?

If intended for collecting the value is gone once opened.

For example, I have the full black Maker’s Secretariat bottle. I paid around $500 for it over 20 years ago.

I don’t know what it’s worth. I’ve been offered $1K for it.

The bourbon in it is probably worth $30?

If if was opened it wouldn’t even be worth that.

Much appreciated. Shame bc that's a good idea to generate funding.

I struggle with Liquor it's hard to know when enough is enough. I know with beer once I go past a certain number it's not going to be good.

Speaking of getting your a$$ kicked by bourbon. If you have never had FullProof 1792, you should at least try it. Not much on taste, but will get you where you want to go quickly 125 proof. Kicks like a mule🤣.

Is it worse than Early Times? That was the cheap stuff we got hammered on back in our high schools days but even then it was saved by coke.

There ya go. A $20 bottle of bourbon sold for $40.

They should have done a special blue Makers 46 bottle for $100. More people would buy that. At least you know what you're getting.
Exactly I’d buy that and I don’t even drink. But if I decided to at least it would be good.

Those flavors don’t even sound good to me together. But honestly a lot of liquors taste similar to me except how smooth it is. I’m not a very good taster of flavors in things like that.

The club blue kentucky light beer is really good. I bought it for watching march madness games and now I'm buying it just because it's good.

If i buy the club blue liquor it will just be for show in the liquor cabinet...not for drinking. Might drink it if I buy two bottles.

It appears there is a white and blue label bottle...and the blue label bottle is more expensive. Finished in tequila bottles, sounds odd but I'm always up for new taste.

Good for you. Also judge the bourbon for yourself. Not a product that you have to take an anonymous opinion on its quality.

OP didn’t like it ..so what… you might have a different feeling.

I might get a bottle just to display anyway. Where can you purchase these bottles? I don't hardly drink anyway.
