Also mentions Bennett. The last few years he and crean have evidently had a falling out . They used to be close colleagues. I don't ever remember a coach trying to pump,up another like this publicly. Cal is pure class even if I dissagree about crean. It's still, early but cal, deserves it right now. If Bennett can run through the acc with just a couple losses I could see him getting it

I think everyone knew that UK/UVA were both going to be very strong teams this season given their returning players and UK's incoming class. If I had to pick a coach right now based off of their team's performance and record (aside from Bennett and Calipari), I think I might go with Mike Brey of ND.

Maybe Cal wants Crean at IU indefinitely, like most of us do. One less team to worry about.

Agree. But if UVa goes undefeated, I think Bennett should get it, all bias aside.

He saw Indiana play last night, and it was clear to him that 1.) They are going to make the tournament 2.) the NCAA will be sorely tempted to give them a draw in Louisville as the closest venue and to set up a 'rivalry' game with UK 3.) If that happens, he'll have to deal with Crean like it or not. Bottom line, he did the calculation and figured the odds of facing IU were fairly high.

So he puts out this tweet as an ice-breaker. And, no doubt, he's got his assistants breaking down everything the Hoosiers do to get off those 3-pointers, and how to counter it.

I have no doubt Cal is already formulating a game plan to gut Indiana like a carp.
Or maybe he just caught part of their game last night and wanted to give some props...

In the beginning of the season, a lot of posters here had him washed up, gone, Indiana would not even make the N.I.T., they were again horrible, blah blah blah. I am no fan of Indiana but watching them last night I was glad we were not playing in that game either.

He has done a really good job with what players he has. It is hard to imagine how they could compete with a Kentucky because of their lack of inside presence but if they shoot the ball like that (and Ole Miss did it too so don't say we automatically would stop that type of shooting) we would better be ready. However, most games come down to fundamentals (control of the boards) etc. and I just can't see how they would compete. But, the point is that a supposed horrible coach with a terrible team is now ranked, and currently leading their conference. Who would have thought that? Certainly based upon the posts here.......no one.

"He has done a really good job with what players he has."

I thought getting players was part of a head coach's job.

I visited Peegs a few times at the beginning of the season... there were a whole lot of THEIR POSTS that indicated a lack of optimism, as well. There was plenty of discussion about how to get out of Crean's contract.

The Big 10 is not what it has been in recent years. Michigan State, Michigan, and Ohio State are all down. As bad as Michigan has been, they are in 4th place in that league. Maryland was 17-15 last year in the ACC, now they're a power in the Big 10. Wisconsin is good, but IU? I'm not buying it. This team is still a LONG way from the NCAA Tournament.
