I was thinking about Coach K's last eight and a half years today and wanted to share my perspective on what may be one of the best 8 year coaching runs ever. There's 3 the gold medals which put USA basketball back where it belongs. Sure, he had superior talent, but he also had a few superior egos (guys like Lebron not included). Also, this was just his side job. He also got two national titles at the college level. These titles came when our main rival, who has much lower admission standards overall to begin with, was letting players skip classes. He had to compete with UK and Cal who were recruiting at an unprecedented level. His approach and personnel have evolved and he's dealt with the loss of several amazing assistant coaches. He has also beautifully navigated some pretty tricky social change issues. The man has a billion grandkids, the Jimmy V Foundation and numerous other charitable interests to look after. Heck, I can't keep up with my own kids and work schedule. The man has had an epic run. Here's to him closing out the next two years with two more titles to make it 3 golds and 4 rings in a single decade. Let's go Duke! Let's go K!

It's a good thing our a$$i$tant coaches are good at what they do.

But in all seriousness, Coach K is pretty damn special.

Coach K has also won with different kinds of teams (college and pro), has virtually no off court problems with his players, is exemplary in the way he is the face of his school, and in my opinion has created a program that will to a large extent outlast him because of the successful "tree" that he has created. It is easy to root for him and his teams whether you are an alum from many years ago or simply a fan who recognizes excellence. Only the dimmest of dimwits would fail to appreciate such unparalleled success (and you know who I mean).

Too bad for Coach K, but Roy is the best in the business. Nobody out works Roy. That's what I read on the hole board anyway.
