This was a hot topic of conversation last week (still is for the UNC faithful), but I spent a large part of the week traveling and I see it never really got addressed much here. If it did in other threads, I apologize for starting a new one. I've just been MIA and am getting caught up.
First off, I'm not sure the footage shows enough to say whether said IU player was intentionally doing it or not. The only person that really knows is said IU player.
Second, and right or wrong, Coach K obviously took exception to it. I don't really have issue with that, because after all, he'd know what he was feeling when it happened. Those of us not in the situation can't really comment.
Lastly, the night it happened I watched the game on tape delay, and the following morning watched the presser at the airport before boarding a flight. Mind you, I hadn't checked this board or THR since prior to the previous night's game. As soon as I heard Coach K give the line about "where I grew up....yada, yada, yada, clearly in a joking manner, I knew it would be plastered at THR. Of course, they never disappoint and it's now going three pages strong.
So what's my point? Nothing really other than this is just another example of finding anything to go after K about. Could he have walked away and just ignored the whole thing? Yes, he could have. But obviously he took exception to it. It's not because he's an egomaniac or expects people to bow down to him, despite what some have worked up in their mind.
I also see many UNC fans feeling sorry for the IU kid. And to be honest, if it was an accident (which we don't know despite what people with an agenda will say) then I do too because the whole thing happened and didn't have to. But I would ask this, already knowing the answer....what if it was a Duke player running off the floor and he bumped into Crean and something ensued afterwards? Would who should be at fault change in the eyes of UNC fans? Of course it would. Then it would be the "punk" Duke player who was sent by Coach K to be his "goon"....we all know it.
If Coach K had made the quote he made in a serious tone then even I would have thought it was over the top. But he didn't. He was joking....and even in joking he can be crucified.
