Coach K/Indiana player

This was a hot topic of conversation last week (still is for the UNC faithful), but I spent a large part of the week traveling and I see it never really got addressed much here. If it did in other threads, I apologize for starting a new one. I've just been MIA and am getting caught up.

First off, I'm not sure the footage shows enough to say whether said IU player was intentionally doing it or not. The only person that really knows is said IU player.

Second, and right or wrong, Coach K obviously took exception to it. I don't really have issue with that, because after all, he'd know what he was feeling when it happened. Those of us not in the situation can't really comment.

Lastly, the night it happened I watched the game on tape delay, and the following morning watched the presser at the airport before boarding a flight. Mind you, I hadn't checked this board or THR since prior to the previous night's game. As soon as I heard Coach K give the line about "where I grew up....yada, yada, yada, clearly in a joking manner, I knew it would be plastered at THR. Of course, they never disappoint and it's now going three pages strong.

So what's my point? Nothing really other than this is just another example of finding anything to go after K about. Could he have walked away and just ignored the whole thing? Yes, he could have. But obviously he took exception to it. It's not because he's an egomaniac or expects people to bow down to him, despite what some have worked up in their mind.

I also see many UNC fans feeling sorry for the IU kid. And to be honest, if it was an accident (which we don't know despite what people with an agenda will say) then I do too because the whole thing happened and didn't have to. But I would ask this, already knowing the answer....what if it was a Duke player running off the floor and he bumped into Crean and something ensued afterwards? Would who should be at fault change in the eyes of UNC fans? Of course it would. Then it would be the "punk" Duke player who was sent by Coach K to be his "goon"....we all know it.

If Coach K had made the quote he made in a serious tone then even I would have thought it was over the top. But he didn't. He was joking....and even in joking he can be crucified.

I can't speak on intentions, but the IU guys made a couple of chippy decisions/plays at the end of the game while they were getting tossed. So for one of their guys to do it at the half while the game was tight and emotions were high, yeah I can see it.

Either way, whatever. How many of us have been bumped and gave someone a sour look or lecture?

I think Coach K's reaction would have been any one's reaction. Also if it had been HOF Coach Roy Williams who got bumped into he would have also reacted the same as Coach K and there would be a 3 page long thread over there about what a jerk the player is. I probably say this too much but I believe it really applies here. They are Tar Heel fans. They can't help it. It's their nature. OFC

Solid post DJ, pretty sure I was called out in that thread or another asking where I was to defend K in this situation. By the time i even saw it was 3 pages deep, and at that point it's like what's the point. I apologize I have a life and can't check their board at a moment's notice.

But the main point is, they failed to listen to the presser- he was joking, he was laughing during it. If you want to be that stiff that you are going to take every word literally, than it goes back to the same old thing with those guys- it doesnt matter, it doesnt matter what you say or do, they're going to believe what they want to believe. No use wasting your breath.

I was brought up to be respectful of others. If it was truly an "accident", apologize, throw a my bad out there, maybe a pardon me, ect....It is common courtesy. I don't know his intent but maybe if he didn't mean to do it, like Crean said, maybe he should have acknowleged it on the court when it happened?

That's what's so annoying with them. Who hasn't been bumped by someone and gave the other guy a "look." If they apologize it's totally all forgiven but when they don't you get pissed and stare at the person and think to yourself what the hell. Idk that's my 2 cents on this situation.

Also we all know how crazy some of those posters are, how much they truly despise Coach K and literally go out of there way to attack him as a coach and a person. For all he has done for the university and community they literally compare him to the devil himself, it's lunatic. What's the worst we say about Roy? He makes 'nana puddin' and we kind of joke at the HOF thing. Honestly I haven't seen worse remakes then those from us but the stuff they say is troubling and pathetic.

Actually he would have had him ejected faster than a Presbyterian fan.

Roy is always jumping to conclusions and doing things prematurely.

I watched Jimmy V's speech last night and before that he was referring to Coach K about their friendship and what a great person he is. I'm sure THR thinks that was somehow prefabricated and all made up. Man I love listening to Jimmy V's speech!
