Wow. One of the more fascinating things I've read this year.

The "Booker can't stay in front of anybody" thing and the "Poythress sucks" line were
. (And I don't agree with the Booker point. Booker has been serviceable at least defensively mainly because he's sneaky strong and isn't afraid to body people.)

The biggest question all year with Kentucky is fast vs. slow. The problem with running and shooting quickly is that you allow Kentucky to play fast, and then you're doomed. But getting quick, clean looks in transition has worked against Kentucky. It's just loaded with a lot of risk.

Not many people talk about it, but this Kentucky team is the best transition offense team I've ever seen in college basketball. They score on the run with incredible efficiency. If you miss long or turn it over, then you're in a world of hurt. The best tactic I've seen is probably slow-then-fast: slowing it in the halfcourt but running on every opportunity.

Vandy did the best, probably, that I've seen. But if you want to play that way you better be on fire because we're not going to give you a lot of run-outs.

Having SEC coaches to "weigh in" on how to beat Kentucky this year is like asking a relapsing alcoholic how to stop drinking. But by all means, go ahead college basketball world, take their advice and see how far it gets you.
Just don't be shocked when UK beats you with guys that can't stay in front of their man, or how they hit double digit three point shots in beating you.

So go ahead, by all means, follow the SEC coaches advice, they've really proven they know how to beat UK and that's the best source from whom you should have "weigh in" with heavy thoughts of wisdom concerning UK.

Personally, I couldn't be happier if you did !

I know those guys make a lot of money coaching and know more than me about these things but it is one thing to say what you need to do to beat UK....it's another thing to do it.

By the way, if I knew which coach said "Poythress sucks" and ever ran into him, I would probably kick him in the gonads.

You may or may not have mistakenly come to believe that these were all SEC coaches. The article says coaches inside and outside the SEC.

Pretty simple - play way over your head and hope for a miracle.

On the defensive end, I suspect we'll see a lot of zones, including more 1-3-1 in the NCAA-T, hoping we're ice cold from the perimeter.

On offense, there's no doubt we'll see guards drive and try to penetrate/kick, trying to pull Willie and Karl away from the basket and create the most fortunate switch as possible. See the Georgia game in Athens.

According to the media, Ole Miss, Texas A&M, LSU, and Georgia have given the recipe to beat UK this season.

But they are all missing the most important ingredient......score more points than them.

True.

IMO, they don't have the legs to compete coming down the stretch and tired legs make for poor jump shots.

Thanks FaF, I thought it said SEC coaches, but you're 100% correct, it did say there were coaches inside and OUTSIDE the SEC. My bad, thanks for pointing out my mistaken take.

As far as my post, I still stand by my comment regarding anything the SEC coaches would have to say about "weighing in" on how to beat UK. They've all failed totally and completely at that (so far) this year.

I wonder which coach said Poythress sucks. That's a really lame *** thing to say about a player on another team. Really low class and low brow comment to make for ANY coach that is supposedly a representative of a university and a role model for their players. That really irks me and makes me extremely upset that any coach would say that about a great kid like AP. Poythress has a fantastic motor, a great defensive presence, hugely athletic, he's a player that any coach would be damned fortunate to have on their team.

I disagree with you, some of the SEC coaches have had very good game plans, but they did not have the horses. Coach Fox at UGA did a very good job of preparing his team but the talent gap was just to much too overcome.

The Poythress comment was a little jarring. Here it is:

Without Lyles they're just playing "5" men. That's why I thought they were OK without Poythress. He sucks. I mean, I shouldn't say sucks, but it wasn't working. They tried to play him at the 3, but he's a 4. He's a long, athletic rebounder but he's not that skilled.
I think if you look at things narrowly and say, OK, what position does AP play, and how does he fit in this lineup, you can get to where this coach is. But you ignore the intangibles that way - you don't take into consideration the defense, the dunks, the stuff he does to lift the team and bring life to an entire arena. I watched a little of last year's run this weekend, and in the UofL game, Poythress comes in and shuts down Hancock. Game over. Then he comes in and handles Kaminski when we got into a little foul trouble. I don't know that we have someone right now that we can put on an athletic 3 or a mobile 5. Willie, for all his flexibility on the defensive end, couldn't be put on a 3. He can guard anyone briefly on a switch - but that's different than saying "Ok, Willie, you got Hancock, he's your man."

The way that is written it looks bad because it is a simple statement of " He sucks." But by reading the rest i think it may be a situation where he was going to say "He sucks at the 3." But stopped himself when he heard it come out of his mouth. Pretty much everything he said is what has been spouted on this board for the last several years.
